The Perfect Holiday Gift

Night 2 of the Colbert Report in Colbert County aired last night. They've done a great job with the skit. You know how skittish we Southerners are about being made fun of. C.R. has struck a perfect balance so far and the community in Tuscumbia has really let their sense of humor shine.

Here's an article in the Timesdaily.com

'Colbert Report' reactions positive:
"TUSCUMBIA -- Whether you pronounce it 'Col-bert' or 'Col-bear,' the county is already receiving attention after its appearance Tuesday on 'The Colbert Report"
_______

Been talking a lot lately about 'San Francisco Values'. Let's take a look at how Georgie Bush can get on the bandwagon by incorporating some 'San Francisco Style' into the Oral... I mean Oval Office:

ELEMENTS OF STYLE:
"OK, it’s unlikely that the results of the election will mean that President Bush switches to a Northern California design aesthetic anytime soon. But just in case he is considering such a move, here are some choices (pictured in the illustration above and on the cover) that embody “San Francisco style.’’

1 California Old Vine Zinfandel. Iconic, to offer friends who are not on the wagon."
_______

Looks like daytime Soap Operas are committing 'whole hog' to the SF value express:

'AMC' introducing transgender character:
"NEW YORK - In a story unusual even for a soap opera and believed to be a television first, ABC's 'All My Children' this week will introduce a transgender character who is beginning to make the transition from a man into a woman.

The character, a flamboyant rock star known as Zarf, kisses the lesbian character Bianca and much drama ensues. The storyline begins with Thursday's episode of the daytime drama."
_______

Since the Republicans were thoroughly trounced on November 7, there's been a serious lack of fear in the U.S. I got kinda use to the constant drumbeat of being scared about something or the other over the past 5 years.

So let's inject a little fear in our lives to pay respect to those goofballs:

Flu viruses survive frozen in lakes, study finds:
"WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Influenza virus can live for decades and perhaps even longer in frozen lakes and might be picked up and carried by birds to reinfect animals and people, researchers reported on Tuesday.
_______

The perfect holiday gift. I know several people I'll be sending this to.

You might remember that I posted something last week about a fantastic product that allows you to freeze you puppy's poop before you pick it up. Jenn B. turned me onto to the great product.

Well, I recently received an email from Fred L. that one-ups the frozen puppy poop by supplying me with the actual poop if I don't have a puppy:

DogDoo.com:

This one is easy to believe as I spent time with my 12 y.o. nephew over T.G. His foot size is bigger than mine and I wear an 11. He's also shaving....

_______

Finally, from an email I received this morning. Don't know who these guys are but it is further proof that Hell is where all the cool, funny people are gonna be hanging out:

Big DBT post coming tomorrow!

Colbert County Values

If you didn't catch the Colbert Report last night then you better have TiVO. And if you don't have TiVO then, what, are you living in Colbert County?

Stephen had the first segment of the Colbert Report in Colbert County last night. Very funny stuff especially when the reporter asked the lady who runs the Helen Keller museum if she wants to hear a Helen Keller joke? She tells him no so he changes his approach by stating that a historian once told him of a Helen Keller occurrance in which she fell down a well and screamed her hands off.

The vid is not up on Comedy Central but I'll let you know when it is.

_______

Don't likey San Francisco Values? Then you'll need to get rid of a few things....

San Francisco Values:
"Did you hear that O'Reilly invented the slur 'San Francisco values'? Yeah, he also thinks he invented sliced bread and fire.

But let's talk about 'San Francisco values', you know -- tolerance, entrepreneurship, and creativity.

Since O'Reilly boycotts everything he hates, I look forward to his boycott of all Bay Area-origin products. Same with every conservative who bashes San Francisco and the Bay Area. So no iPods or anything Apple. No HP computers. No Google. No Yahoo. No eBay. Those conservative bloggers using Blogspot, MovableType, or TypePad? Sorry. Those products are Bay Area-based.

Also no....... "
This list goes on and on and on and on.....

_______

Daily reminder that Republicans, though neutered, are still dicks who bare watching.

President Dick. Virginia, you've got a great one in Webb:

Bush, Webb in testy exchange over Senator-elect's soldier son:
"President Bush and U.S. Senator-elect Jim Webb got into a testy exchange over the status of Webb's soldier son, who is serving in Iraq, The Hill is reporting.

Emily Heil writes that at a White House private dinner just after the election featuring 'newly elected lawmakers,' Bush asked Webb 'how his son, a Marine lance corporal serving in Iraq, was doing.' According to a person who was present at the dinner, Webb replied to the President that he 'really wanted to see his son brought back home.'

'I didn't ask you that, I asked how he's doing,' Bush replied, according to The Hill's source."
2nd Republican Dick. And they're seriously considering this POS as their nominee in 08? Fuck him and his divorced horse. Unbelievable. Anyone who agrees with this fool needs to take their ass to Russia.

Gingrich raises alarm at event honoring those who stand up for freedom of speech
"MANCHESTER – Former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich yesterday said the country will be forced to reexamine freedom of speech to meet the threat of terrorism.

Gingrich, speaking at a Manchester awards banquet, said a 'different set of rules' may be needed to reduce terrorists' ability to use the Internet and free speech to recruit and get out their message.
_______

Paris may of had the idea but a Bay Area firm is building this cool looking building.

A wind-powered skyscraper in Paris:
"PARIS — Developers have selected a design by an award-winning American architect for a bold new building nearly as tall as the Eiffel Tower — and powered partly by the wind."

Speaks for itself. U.S.A.! U.S.A.!:

Man Seeks Record for Arm Hair Length:
"Jon Sanford takes good care of his hair, washing it regularly and conditioning it occasionally. Now he might break a record for that hair — on his arms.

One particularly long strand measured 4.1 inches. If the measurement is ruled official by Guinness World Records, Sanford will have topped the previous record of 3.96 inches."

And in the 'no-shit' category:

Women talk three times as much as men, says study:
"It is something one half of the population has long suspected - and the other half always vocally denied. Women really do talk more than men.

In fact, women talk almost three times as much as men, with the average woman chalking up 20,000 words in a day - 13,000 more than the average man."

Irish Whiskey Dicks

My lead article today isn't about politics. We'll get to that soon enough. It is about something far greater than politics.... Whiskey... and Coffee.

If you didn't know, Irish Coffee orginated in San Francisco at the Buena Vista Cafe. Big rumblings of late as the Mecca of Irish Coffee has changed their brand for the first time. This is some serious shit. Especially since the distillery that makes the original is name 'Cooley Distillery'. We ALL know that anything named 'Cooley' knows a potato-load about whiskey.

Here's the tale:

Coffee, cream, sugar and -- Irish whiskey / ... but Buena Vista changed brands:
"The Bay Area has been rocked on its heels in the last month or so. The 49ers may move to Santa Clara and the Athletics are going to Fremont. But just under the radar something really serious has happened -- the venerable Buena Vista cafe has altered the recipe for Irish coffee.

The Buena Vista, at the foot of Hyde Street, is where Irish coffee first came to America, 54 years ago this month. The Buena Vista is the largest single consumer of Irish whiskey in the country -- 18,720 liter-sized bottles a year. The Buena Vista is the cathedral of Irish coffee in the United States.

Just because the good guys won on November 7 doesn't mean that the bad guys have faded into the mist. Your 'liberal' media is still not 'liberal' and is still spewing the same old misinformation, I mean, LIES.

Let's shed some light on the cock-a-roaches.....

Drudge Blows It: Latest Attack On Gore’s Global Warming Stance Falls Flat

Drudge blows, for sure.

NEWSFLASH! FOX is not fair and balanced. Shocking, I know:

Rep. Frank Accuses Fox News Host of Bias:
"Following in President Clinton's footsteps, a prominent Democratic congressman yesterday accused a Fox News anchor of conducting a skewed interview designed to make Democrats look bad."
______

Someone over at Daily Kos is Calling Bullshit on America

_______

Hopefully, an era of enlightenment and reason:

The conservative era is over. What will replace it?:
"Though George W. Bush is as right-wing as Reagan or Gingrich, he has managed to terminate the conservative era. Bush did this, first of all, by joining with congressional Republicans in treating the federal budget as a Christmas stocking for supporters. Rapidly accumulating deficits and growth in federal spending—from 18.3 percent of GDP in Clinton's final year to 20.3 percent in 2006—undermined the association of conservatism with limited government. On social, moral, and scientific issues, Bush tilted so far to the right that he scared away secular, socially moderate, and libertarian Republicans. Finally, Bush's feckless foreign policy discredited optional military intervention, much as Johnson and Nixon did in Vietnam."

Ain't that a bitch.... I said, AIN'T THAT A BITCH!

Woman's body found behind bookcase:
"NEW PORT RICHEY, Florida (AP) -- A woman's body was found wedged upside-down behind a bookcase in the home she shared with relatives who had spent nearly two weeks looking for her."
_______

FINALLY!!! I'm SO buying stock in this company! Dudes will NEVER forget to take the pill.

UK scientists invent male 'pill' that can be taken hours before sex:
"British scientists have developed a revolutionary pill that men could take as a one-off contraceptive just before a date.

The tablet would prevent a man from being able to impregnate a woman, but within a few hours his fertility would return to normal."

I Grew Up Two Hours North of Birmingham

Update: Check out the Colbert Report tonight for a look at Colbert County Alabama!

Transcontinental flying makes me stupid..... okay, stupider.... Why am I sitting at my desk in California right now? I was chillin' at Wilson Dam in Alabama just a few minutes ago it seems.

Kudos to Delta for no flight delays on any of my flights.

Boodos to the Oakland Airport for not having enough baggage claim space.

Kudos to the cab driver who drove me from Oakland Airport to the beaches of San Francisco.

Boodos to the 75 clams it cost me. Still, much better than trying to take mass transit and well worth it.

All I've got today is a couple of tease pictures for Friday's DBT post. Fantastic concert at the Alabama Theatre this Saturday. I've got many tales to tell and some kickass pictures.

Here's what's to come on Friday:

The next Friday I'll have another DBT Picture/Lyric Tour so lots of good DBT content coming your way.

My only ariticle today is a good debatable one that should take up a lot of time on the Monday after the Thanksgiving

The All-TIME 100 Albums:
"So here's how we chose the albums for the All-TIME 100. We researched and listened and agonized until we had a list of the greatest and most influential records ever - and then everyone complained because there was no Pink Floyd on it. And that's exactly how it should be. We hope you'll treat the All-TIME 100 as a great musical parlor game. Read and listen to the arguments for the selections, then tell us what we missed or got wrong. Or even possibly what we got right."

Don't know why they even bother...

DBT.... Alabama Theatre... just a nudge over 24 hours till showtime.... Joy to the World... All the boys and girls....

P.S. News Song by Patterson Hood:
Give Rush all the Oxy-Cotin
And Viagra that it takes to do the job
Send him off to Thailand with that nut-case
Who didn’t kill that girl in Colorado
And Bush needs another trillion dollars
To pay his friends to clean up all the mess
That was made while the media wasn’t looking
They were telling Michael Moore how to dress

Poop Freeze

Here's a couple more North Alabama pictures for you.

I learned some tidbits yesterday about what I believe to be the true stories that The Great Car Dealer Wars and Decoration Day are based on. I'll be sharing those with you post Thanksgiving Holidays.

San Francisco Values:
"I'm now absolutely certain that Bill O'Reilly is the reason ball gags were invented."

This one is via Jenn B. As she stated, "They'll freeze anything these days".

The U.S. is an equal opportunity hater. We hate foreigners and our own citizens equally.

U.S. is most unfriendly country to visitors, survey says:
"WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Rude immigration officials and visa delays keep millions of foreign visitors away from the United States, hurt the country's already battered image, and cost the U.S. billions of dollars in lost revenue, according to an advocacy group formed to push for a better system.
My people:

Atheists Out of the Closet:
Famous atheist Richard Dawkins’ book The God Delusion is #5 on Amazon.com. Sam Harris is right up there with his books The End of Faith and Letters to a Christian Nation. They aren’t selling in numbers anywhere approaching the top religious books, but they are best sellers. When was the last time two books promoting atheism were best sellers at about the same time?

I think the hidden benefit of Islamic extremism is that it freed the atheists from their closets. The old mindset in the United States was that almost any religion was good, and atheism was bad. But since 9/11, atheism has moved above Islam in the rankings, at least in the minds of Christians and Jews in the United States."

Dying on Stage

A little North Alabama fall color......

....near Wilson Dam:

When you bomb in the U.S. as a comedian this is what happens:

Michael Richards, aka Kramer, spews racial slurs during stand-up

When you bomb in Iraq as a comedian this is what happens:

Comedian's Slaying Hikes Iraq Death Toll:
"Gunmen shot and killed a television comedian Monday who was famous for mocking everyone from the Iraqi government to U.S. forces to Shiite militias to Sunni insurgents."

Yet even more tragic is this:

Peter Jackson dropped from "Hobbit" film:
"LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Where is Frodo when you need him? Director Peter Jackson has been told he will not be hired to direct a movie based on J.R.R. Tolkien novel 'The Hobbit,' despite the nearly $3 billion global box office success of his 'Lord of the Rings' trilogy, according to a letter Jackson wrote to fan site TheOneRing.net."

If I Died in Stephen Colbert County....

... would it make Comedy Central? Apparently, yes... finally:

TimesDaily.com
TUSCUMBIA -- Producers of the Comedy Central news-program parody, "The
Colbert Report," say the production that was taped recently in
Tuscumbia
likely will air in segments Nov. 27-30.
.....

He stresses those dates are tentative. Much of the show's material involves
current news items, so if something major occurs that week, the
Colbert
County
segments could get bumped until later."Anything can happen,"
Cooperman said. "These schedules are real fluid."

Incurious George. What a moron:

Unlike Clinton, Bush Sees Hanoi in Bit of a Hurry:
"HANOI, Vietnam, Sunday, Nov. 19 — President Bush likes speed golf and
speed tourism — this is the man who did the treasures of Red Square in less than
20 minutes — but here in the lake-studded capital of a nation desperately eager
to connect with America, he set a record."

Ladies, This must be a dream come true. Line up to get raped by Mike Tyson. You even get to pay for it.

Hasn't Mike been a prostitue for a while now?

Mike Tyson To Be A Prostitute - Starpulse News Blog:

Beautiful Girls

Special Sunday post while I'm sitting in the ATL airport waiting for my connector to B:irmingham.

Two Thoughts:

1. There's some courteous MFers in the south. I've been sweetie, sug, honey, sweetheart, dear, since I've been here (I flew Delta and the entire crew was Georgia based so I'm counting time on the plane as "here"). I'm not even gonna tell you what the pilot called me, though.

2. GODDAMN, Southern women are F-I-N-E. I've got to export one out to California. I said, GODAMN!!!

More like this throughout the week.

Update: I just realized that I'm wearing my DBT hat in the ATL. Thus, the reason that I"m getting all the "sweetie, sug, honey, sweetheart, dear, etc. BUT, it doesn't account for the lack of fine southern women throwing themselves at my feet..... Shit, from this point on I'm Cooley's (much younger) brother.

DBT WIR - 11/17

Not much DBT news this week except for a killer AHC! show coming up but we are looking forward to the beginning of 07 as more information on the long awaited solo albums from the DBT family will assuredly start flowing.

I'm heading back the Florence, Alabama for Thanksgiving with my brand new Canon XTi SLR digital camera. I'll be taking photos of a few DBT/Shoals song references I missed and hopefully I can sneak the Canon into the Alabama Theatre for the Thanksgiving show.

However, I am looking for suggestions from you folks. If there's any North West Alabama sites that you'd like to see that I haven't covered in the previous DBT pictures tours, drop me a comment in this post. I need a lot of practice with this camera and any suggestions would be greatly welcomed.

Here's a recent sunset picture I took from my balcony:

On to the post:

Back to the future with DBT... for a damn good cause:

Adam's House Cat Show

Remember Adam's House Cat? That's the band Patterson and Cooley had way before DBT, and they had some incredible songs. Some of the most rockin' DBT songs were once AHC songs in fact - Buttholeville and Lookout Mountain to name a couple - but there were lots of other amazing tunes that rarely see the light of day anymore.

Cooley and Patterson have only gotten together to do AHC songs 2 or 3 times since AHC broke up, but they're gonna do it again for a great cause. Sabina Hartley-Burke is the 7-year-old daughter of some old friends. Sabina was recently diagnosed with a malignant tumor on her brain stem, and of course medical costs are an incredible burden on the family. Here in the DBT camp we're all too aware of the insane problems with medical costs in this country, and doing whatever we can to help bring attention to them is important to all of us.

The benefit will be held on December 1, 2006 at Nu├ži's Space in Athens, GA. It's a rare opportunity to see Adam's House Cat songs performed once again, as well as help a wonderful little girl and her family with their overwhelming medical expenses. Keep an eye on http://www.nuci.org/ and http://www.simplysabina.com/ for ticket sales and information (and please, feel free to make a donation even if you can't come!). We hope to see you all there!

Nine Bullets:
"Great video of DBT performing 'SINK HOLE' outside in the sunshine of New Oleans."
Check out rock and roll youngster and part of the DBT family, Audra Brown's websit for some nice shots of her with DBT. Also, check out some of the Rock this young lady is producing. She's gonna be a star someday!

Audra Brown:
"Here I am onstage with the worlds greatest rock band, the Drive-By Truckers, at the Library in Oxford, MS April 22, 2005. They asked me to sing Zip City (my favorite song) again!!! These guys (and girl) are the nicest people and I am proud to be a small part of their family. Their fans rawk too!! And I cant say enough about how wonderful the crew take care of me...Jenn, Patrick, Matt, Ryan and Brian. Can't wait till we get to see em again!"

From the Yahoo Group:

dbts : Message: Matt Conley mentioned in Maxim:
"Ran across the following reference to Matt Conley, about whom Dress Blues was written, in the November Maxim (I usually only read it for the pictures). The article is called 'Angel of Death' by Pat Dollard, a former Hollywood agent who now spends his time with Marines in Iraq.
.....

-Dave"
Tony, the drummer for The Drams writes about the final show with DBT on the recent tour.

the Drams:
"Nashville was next on our little journey. There was a change of venue, but that didn't seem to bother attendance. Of note: Cooley's wife and kids came in town, and his oldest son got to watch backstage(with aircraft headphones and mini-guitar). Many of you do not know I'm an old softie, and seeing that boy rock out to his daddy was cuter than fucking puppies and kittens. Also of note Jenn, and Shayne came into N and brightened our lives! Jayne and her boyfriend came in for her B-day, and I got to meet Jason's mom. A good time was had by all. Keith more than others. I could tell by his hangover the next day.

The official last gig of this tour was in Memphis. I have a small love affair for dirty, filthy, nasty, Memphis. S.B. recorded EYTWRWWT at Ardent studios, and we got to stay there a month, with fond memories. This was kinda like a small homecoming for the Truckers as they lived there for a time. The theater had to have been sold out. I think we did o.k., there were some dropped jaws. I don't know if it was because we kicked ass, or if the people were thinking 'What is this shit?', but we had a blast. Mark came out shirtless we a tray of drinks in the middle of the set. It seems we had another member of the Sasqautsch Nation. After the DBT's blistering set we hung out on their bus, kissed their asses, exchanged #'s, lamented that we weren't going to see each other for a while. Just like summer camp. We then hopped in the van with tears in our eyes and headed home for Denton."
Speaking of Tony, apparently he refurbishes drums and has a couple of sets on e-bay:

Undertow Music :: View topic - Pass it on!:
"Hey everybody, it's Tony da' drummer! The last six months or so I have been refurbishing drums for extra scratch and to keep busy between tours. Maybe you have seen my most recent project on the last two tours or at the Our Band../Replacements show.

Here's the deal though, I'm getting sick of E-Bay. I know that people expect to get good deals there, but my time and $ go into these sets and I'm not selling crap. Eventually I will get a website, but till then I gotsta get paid, Yo! I got this set, plus three more ready for some TLC.

So what I am proposing is if you or anyone you know want drums, vintage drums,or their own drums refurbished, get in touch with me. Also, here is my current set on auction that ends today(11/9/06). $700.00 or I will take $650.00 and put the $50.00 to shipping.
To see the set go (here):

Thanks Dogs,

T"
And speaking of The Drams, Jayne informed that one of the first shows from the recent tour has hit archive. Wouldn't you know it was the show in San Francisco that I posted about here:

Internet Archive: Details: The Drams Live at Bottom Of The Hill on 2006-09-25

Tony from the Yahoo Group posted an excellent little read on Rock and Politics:

dbts : Message: NO DBT: An Academic on Rock and Politics:
A New Kind of Star:

Rock & Roll and the Politicization of Celebrity

David R. Shumway

Department of English, Carnegie Mellon University

Friday, December 1, 3pm

Stardom, a particular kind of celebrity, becomes politicized after WWII, when the cultural meaning of stars shifted from one focused on personality and glamour to one in which stars increasing stood for ideological positions or were understood as spokespeople for political causes. Stars of the studio era represented not ideologies, but a range of richly conceived personalities. They appeared in films that, because of the production code, seldom featured political controversy. Popular musicians were if anything even more remote from politics. The Cold War and changes in the cultural industries meant that after the war, popular culture would much more often be perceived politically. John Wayne, Marilyn Monroe, and James Dean as instances of politicized movie stars. Rock & roll stars, however, were political from the start, as the controversy generated by Elvis Presley in 1956 shows. By the late the 1960s, rock stars had displaced movie stars as the leading entertainment royalty, but they very different from the movie stars they replaced. The Rolling Stones, Bob Dylan, the Grateful Dead, James Brown, Bruce Springsteen, and Joni Mitchell all have distinct political significance. The talk is illustrated with photos showing how the visual representation of stars changes from glamour photos of the 1930s to the provocative images typical of Rolling Stone. Sponsored By the Department of Communication"
Speaking of Rock and Politics:

Dixie Chicks peck at Bush

Be sure to catch their documentary that's out.

Maines Regrets Bush Apology:
"Dixie Chicks star Natalie Maines regrets the public apology she made after blasting U.S. President George W. Bush onstage in London -- because he has never earned her respect."

Maines jokes she should have claimed she was intoxicated when she made her comments: "I wasn't about to say, 'Oh sorry, I didn't mean it, I was drunk, let's go to rehab ...' Sales probably would have been huge."
They run out on the field to 'Ace of Spades'. Lemmy!!!

Rockers to sponsor under-10 team:
"A Lincoln boys football team have won a sponsorship coup with a difference after striking a deal with heavy metal band Motorhead.

The Greenbank under-10s B team have the internationally renowned band's name on their shirts along with the band's motif - a skull named Snaggletooth.

The North Hykeham team also run out to the band's famous Ace of Spades track."

The future is looking bright and looking like a whole hell of a lot of fun:

T-shirt turns air guitar into music:
"CANBERRA, Australia - Scientists announced Monday that they have developed a high-tech T-shirt that turns the strumming of an air guitar into music.

The T-shirt has motion sensors built into its elbows that pick up the wearer's arm motions and relay them wirelessly to a computer which interprets them as guitar riffs, said Richard Helmer, an engineer who leads the research team from the government's Australian Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organization.

Rarely is the question asked....

Who was the best rock band of the '80s? :
"You can tell a lot about a band by how they tell their own story. This fall, R.E.M. released And I Feel Fine, a collection of songs from their early years, 1982 to 1987. The deluxe two-disc edition comes with liner notes in which R.E.M.'s four founding members relate stories of the band's early years. As a one-time devoted fan, I devoured these 11 short pages of storytelling—a tiny window into the songs I'd spent so many hours rapturously listening to, obsessing over, and decoding."

Conspiring to Blow-IN a Plane

A Better Internet

"Let's get it on"

krrrk, This is your captian speaking. Our inflight movie today will be Mission Impossible III starring Tom Cruise. We also have a bonus adult feature that can be viewed in row 16 seats A and B. The title of the adult feature is D.A.T.Y. starring two of your fellow passengers. Enjoy your flight and thank you for choosing Delta".

Do you need another example why the "Patriot" Act needs to be repealed. If I can't get a little busy in a trans-continental flight, then the terrorist truley have won.

People need to be able to practice their love.

Mid-flight sexual play lands US couple afoul of anti-terrorism law:
"A couple's ill-concealed sexual play aboard a Southwest Airlines flight from Los Angeles got them charged with violating the Patriot Act, intended for terrorist acts, and could land them in jail for 20 years.

According to their indictment, Carl Persing and Dawn Sewell were allegedly snuggling and kissing inappropriately, 'making other passengers uncomfortable,' when a flight attendant asked them to stop."

Evolution

*fingers in ears* Na-na-na-na-na-na. I can't hear you. Dophin's never had legs. na-na-na-na. The Bible doesn't say that. na-na-na-na. Science tells me lies.

Dolphin may have 'remains' of legs:
"TOKYO - Japanese researchers said Sunday that a bottlenose dolphin captured last month has an extra set of fins that could be the remains of hind legs, a discovery that may provide further evidence that ocean-dwelling mammals once lived on land.

Dolphin legs can't hold a candle to the religious right freak out factor on this next one:

Heart Valves Grown From Womb Fluid Cells:
"CHICAGO (AP) - Scientists for the first time have grown human heart valves using stem cells from the fluid that cushions babies in the womb _ offering a revolutionary approach that may be used to repair defective hearts in the future.
Damn, I can't wait til they get cloning down pat. I'm so going for it.

Early Bird Stripper Special

Another example of the terrorist winning.

Hell, I'm old enough to join these D.O.B.s. Where do I sign up?

Police Halt Strip Show at Men's Club:
"No more bare bodies for the old boys. Police on Monday stripped the local chapter of the International Order of Old Bastards of the exotic dancers who have performed at their meetings for decades.

The club, which consists of about 600 members, has met quarterly for at least 40 years, according to a police report. Members must be at least 35 years old, although the average age is mid-60s, said Richard Story, who described himself as the club's newly installed Arch Old Bastard.

Taking Tests Improves Memory :
"Students, don't cringe, but new research suggests that the very act of taking a test is enough to enhance long-term memory. Furthermore, testing helps students remember not only what they studied for the test, but also related, non-tested concepts.

I'm telling you, a beer and chocolate diet will make you live forever. I'm going to live until I'm 169 y.o.

Chocolate addiction leads to sweet discovery
"WASHINGTON (Reuters) - They were so addicted, they just could not give up their favorite daily snack -- not even in the interest of science.

But chocolate lovers who flunked out of a Johns Hopkins University study on aspirin and heart disease helped researchers stumble on an explanation of why a little chocolate a day can cut the risk of heart attack.

San Francisco Values

In yesterday's post I noted this upcoming vote by the San Francisco city supervisors. Since the Dems won the election last Tuesday and the Speaker of the House will be SFs own Nancy Pelosi, all laws passed in San Francisco will be mandated across the United States. Well the votes are in, baby and.... You're welcome!

SF supes outlaw foam food containers, decriminalize adult pot use:

This is how much of a non issue marijuana is in San Francisco. The lead in the article isn't about the pot decrim... it's about the ban on foam food containers. Guaranteed to cause a bigger uproar than the Mary Jane.
"The Board of Supervisors voted today to outlaw the use of Styrofoam and other polystyrene products by city restaurants and to effectively decriminalize the use, sale and cultivation of marijuana by adults.

The food container legislation, introduced by Board of Supervisors President Aaron Peskin and approved unanimously on the first of two votes needed for passage, would apply to about 3,400 restaurants in San Francisco as well city facility food service providers and food vendor companies contracting with the city. It is scheduled to be implemented June 1, 2007."
Later in the article we get to the ganja legislation.
The marijuana legislation, which passed on an initial vote 8-3, would set nearly all crimes involving marijuana as the lowest law enforcement priority for city police and urges the district attorney to adopt the same policy when prosecuting criminal defendants.
You'll find me at the local plant store this weekend.

_______

San Francisco and the Dems have come together to create a list of mandates to go in effect immediately. My friend Dave from Berkeley was on the steering committee for the mandates and passed the completed list along to me.

I've noted a few of the better ones. Check out the link for the full list:

the Right Was Right:

1. Mandatory homosexuality

2. Drug-filled condoms in schools

3. Introduce the new Destruction of Marriage Act

4. Border fence replaced with free shuttle buses

9. All taxes to be tripled

14. Pledge of Allegiance in schools replaced with morning flag-burning

15. Stem cells allowed to be harvested from any child under the age of 8

17. Quarterly mandatory abortion lottery

18. God to be mocked roundly

22. Texas returned to Mexico

Crooked Pols

I agree with what Atrios says.....:
"Hey, if they've got the goods on Dems then escort them to the courtroom".
... about this:
'Convicted lobbyist Jack Abramoff is scheduled to report to federal prison tomorrow, over the objections of federal prosecutors who say they still need his help to pursue leads on officials he allegedly bribed.

Sources close to the investigation say Abramoff has provided information on his dealings with and campaign contributions and gifts to 'dozens of members of Congress and staff,' including what Abramoff has reportedly described as 'six to eight seriously corrupt Democratic senators.'
No Democratic cultist am I. If you are a dirty, rotten scoundrel then I don't care what party you belong too. Get the fuck out! Blowjobs from a consenting adult do not count, though.

Science and Tech

Two of the most important reasons that it was crucial for the Dems to take control over Congress were the future of science and tech. We can start moving away from the Republican dark ages and into the industries that will sustain this country:

The exploding politics of biotechnology.
"By one o'clock Wednesday morning, Democrats had taken the lead in the U.S. Senate races in Virginia and Montana. Control of the Senate came down to Missouri, where Democrat Claire McCaskill trailed Jim Talent, the Republican incumbent, with three-quarters of the ballots counted. In a final surge, McCaskill took the race and the Senate. And with her came the political issue of the future: biotechnology."

What the Democrats' win means for tech:
But now that this week's elections have switched control of the House back to the Democrats--and they appear to have seized the Senate as well--the outlook for technology-related legislation has changed dramatically overnight.

On a wealth of topics--Net neutrality, digital copyright, merger approval, data retention, Internet censorship--a Capitol Hill controlled by Democrats should yield a shift in priorities on technology-related legislation."

Dems alway lose no matter what

Continuing this discussion is Ted Rall:

WHEN IS A WIN NOT A WIN:
"The New New Democrats need to study the calendar. Two years from now, they may well end up back in the minority, reading passionate speeches no one will ever hear to an empty chamber for the benefit of C-SPAN. Rather than triangulate or moderate their views, Democrats should take that two-year time limit seriously and go gangbusters, emulating Cheney and Bush's balls-to-the-wall style to pass as much legislation as they can before 2008. That means unraveling as many GOP accomplishments as possible. Cancel the tax cuts, close the torture camps, restore habeas corpus, get the NSA out of our email, yank our troops out of Afghanistan and Iraq.

It's high time for vengeance. Impeachment is essential, to cleanse our national soul, as a downpayment of good will toward the rest of the world, and because they did it to Clinton for far, far less. And we need investigations--lots of them. Special prosecutors ought to track down everyone, up to and including Bush, who lied about WMDs in Iraq, chose not to pursue Osama in Pakistan after 9/11, deliberately withheld help that could have saved lives during the Hurricane Katrina, and signed off on warrantless wiretapping of American citizens. Law and order starts at the top."

"When Polish student Michael Gromek, 19, went to America on a student exchange, he found himself trapped in a host family of Christian fundamentalists. What followed was a six-month hell of dawn church visits and sex education talks as his new family tried to banish the devil from his soul. Here's his story.

1 percent porn

This is completely unacceptable. Only 1 percent?!?! That's WAY too little porn on the web. Someone needs to do something about this. I mean, with only 1 percent I'll be finished by Friday and then what am I suppose to do?

And what the hell are the panty sniffers in the government doing commissioning a survey like this and how can I get a job with the company that had to make this determination. I'll need a private cube, a tub of Jergens and a massive roll of paper towels.

Government study: Internet 1 percent porn:
"PHILADELPHIA, Pennsylvania (AP) -- About 1 percent of Web sites indexed by Google and Microsoft are sexually explicit, according to a U.S. government-commissioned study."

San Francisco Values

San Francisco (don't call it 'Frisco) values are being prepared and packaged to be shipped across the nation come January. Here's a sample from America's next goodie basket:

S.F. supervisors to vote on softening pot enforcement:
"San Francisco's Board of Supervisors will vote Tuesday on legislation that would set nearly all crimes involving marijuana as the lowest law enforcement priority for city police.
Oh, hell yeah! You like that, dontcha! Puff-puff-pass and don't sweat it.

What does the opposition have to say about this measure?:
'This measure, which would legalize the unlimited growth and sales (of marijuana) on private property, will make public spitting and (leaving chewing) gum ... on the sidewalk higher priorities,' said Kim Stryker, voicing opposition before the supervisors' City Operations and Neighborhood Services Committee."
Public spitting and throwing trash on the sidewalks should be higher freakin' priorities than busting someone burning a joint in the park. Throw public shitting in their too because in some neighborhoods you better be looking down when you stroll.

The "War on Drugs" is a joke and a waste:
"'There are many better ways that we can be using our tax dollars and empowering our law enforcement than wasting money and police resources on marijuana offenses,' Ammiano said. 'This ordinance would allow San Francisco to join other forward-thinking cities. It will not result in San Francisco becoming Amsterdam West.'
A-frickin'-men! Oh, and I don't have any problem with being Amsterdam West. When do we get hookers behind glass?

______

'Member yesterday when I cursed the supposed "bipartisan" tone the Dems are somehow required to take on after the election. Otherwise we're just a bunch of liberal dicks. Well, theny, let's take a way-back trip to 1994. There is this fella that's name after a frog and he has this contract that he wants 'Merica to sign on to. We all know how that turned out. But 1994 was the Republican Revolution and did they play nice? What do you think:

Newt in ‘94 vowed to investigate Clinton for 2 years as his platform:
"C&L brings you this CBS/NBC report from 1994. Gingrich went nuts over Clinton and his new-found subpoena power, yet if Democrats want to hold hearings on oversight and Iraq war profiteering that's supposed to hurt them."
Oh, and your liberal media.... yeah, not so much. Another 1994/2006 comparison:

A tale of two covers: Time 's '94 postelection cover touted "G.O.P. Stampede," '06 cover asserts "the center is the new place to be"

_______

I know we won the election but it is still very important to point out the slime machine that is Republican politics.

GOP Fliers Apparently Were Part Of Strategy:
"The six Trailways motorcoaches draped in Ehrlich and Steele campaign banners rumbled down Interstate 95 just before dawn on Election Day.

On board, 300 mostly poor African Americans from Philadelphia ate doughnuts, sipped coffee and prepared to spend the day at the Maryland polls. After an early morning greeting from Gov. Robert L. Ehrlich Jr.'s wife, Kendel, they would fan out in white vans across Prince George's County and inner-city Baltimore, armed with thousands of fliers that appeared to be designed to trick black Democrats into voting for the two Republican candidates."
_______

Ummm, somebody needs to tell these wackos that their day in the sun is over. They need to go on back to their mammys or crawl back under the rock from whence the came.

The first 6 words in this article are all you need to know that the study is bunk-bunkity-bunk-bunk.

Mo. Panel: Immigration, Abortion Linked:
"A Republican-led legislative panel claims in a new report on illegal immigration that abortion is partly to blame because it is causing a shortage of American workers.

The report from the state House Special Committee on Immigration Reform also claims 'liberal social welfare policies' have discouraged Americans from working and encouraged immigrants to cross the border illegally.
.......

All six Democrats on the panel refused to sign the report. Some of them called the abortion assertion ridiculous and embarrassing."
_______

For some reason this article paints a sad picture for me. Of course this guy could have been some junky, but have we come to the point where people who are in need of medicine but can't afford it are willing to hold up a pharmacy?

That may be a stretch, but if you were a junky wouldn't you take the uppers during the hostage stand-off and not a xanax?

"I'm going to committ a voilent crime with a gun but first let me pop a xanax and smoke a joint". Hell, the only crime I'm committing after a xanax and a joint is a possible crime against the inside of my underwear when I can't get off the couch to relieve myself.

W.Va. pharmacy hostages overpower gunman:
"STOLLINGS, W.Va. - Four people taken hostage by a gunman at a pharmacy overpowered their captor Monday after he demanded prescription drugs and fired several shots, authorities said.

The 90-minute standoff ended when the hostages, who were barricaded inside the store with the gunman, hit him with something, Sheriff's Deputy B.E. Ferrell said.

None of the hostages was harmed, but the suspect was taken to a hospital, Ferrell said. The nature of his injuries was not immediately clear, but a witness said he had taken a painkiller and an anti-anxiety drug.
....

Pharmacy technician Jessica Thompson, 24, said the gunman said he needed drugs but could not afford to buy them."
_______

I'm sorry but I just don't buy this one. Especially the dollar amount they say the companies are losing due to absenteeism.

A lot of folks are not employed 8 hours a day. They may be at work 8 hours but they ain't 'working' 8 hours. I was out sick last week and not one dime was lost by my employer.

I just don't buy it!

Absenteeism in U.S. workplace hits highest level in years:
"Skipping work without good reason? You have lots of company.

Unscheduled absenteeism at U.S. companies and organizations has climbed to its highest level since 1999, according to results of a recent nationwide survey of human resource executives in U.S. companies and organizations.

6 Bullets and an Alabama Ass Whuppin

OK, we've had about a week to soak in the glory of the Alabama Ass Whuppin' dispensed by the Dems on the Rethugs. Some might say the the Republicans.... oh, why try to put it in words when a cartoon says it so well:

Best. Cartoon. Ever.

BUT, unfortunately we can't hold an election for our teevee and radio news fools who still aren't doing their jobs worth a fuck. No way to kick them out of their jobs. So, we alternative news consumers will have to continue pulling the curtain away from their song and dance.

A big fallacy being pushed now is that all these Democrats are actually conservatives. Imagine! A loss not being a loss for these guys. Nevermind the fact that the 3 months before Nov. 7 these 'conservative' Democrats were being painted by the Rethugs as the most liberal of the liberal who would be allowing gay abortions in the streets all the while taxing you into oblivion.

Daily Kos: We're All Conservatives Now:
"I woke up Wednesday morning and found out I was a conservative. See, a whole slew of candidates I supported were elected - enough to form a majority that will work to pass legislation of which I wholeheartedly approve - and I discovered from pundits that this is evidence of how conservative America really is. Since the outcome is precisely what I hoped for, I must be a 'conservative Democrat' too.

They've been beating the drums for 72 hours now - 'conservative Democrats, conservative Democrats, conservative Democrats.' Both Hunter and Markos tried to set the punditocracy straight, but I suspect this probably does as much good as spitting in the wind. So I'm ready to go all contrarian and Zen on right-wing blowhards and embrace the label."

Another fallacy is this expectation that the Dems have to be nice and bipartisan now that we are in control. Huh? Fuck that, I want partisanship out the wazoo and I want these fuckers to be held accountable. None of this "what's in the past is past" bullshit. Hey, I'm not saying we should spend all our time and energy prosecuting these fools. We've got a lot of work that needs to be done for the greater good of this country. But, we can certainly do more than two things at once and one of those things should be hearings, supeonas and jail time. If you don't hold 'em accountable then it sets a presedence that it is acceptable. Tis not and punishment are due.

Bring it home, Molly:

Creators.com - Creators Syndicate:
"AUSTIN, Texas -- The sheer pleasure of getting lessons in etiquette from Karl Rove and the right-wing media passeth all understanding. Ever since 1994, the Republican Party has gone after Democrats with the frenzy of a foaming mad dog. There was the impeachment of Bill Clinton, not to mention the trashing of both Clinton and his wife -- accused of everything from selling drugs to murder -- all orchestrated by that paragon of manners, Tom DeLay.

Media Matters collected some gems of fairness. For instance, Monica Crowley with MSNBC, in the wake of John Kerry's botched program, astutely observed 'how lucky we are that he was not elected president. ... The Republicans remain the grown-ups, the responsible ones on national security.'

How many dead Americans has this grown-up war resulted in? "

And can we stop with the masturbatory drooning that Karl Rove is some sort of genius?

The Architect's Faulty Specs:
How did the man they call Bush's brain get it so wrong?

Rove's miscalculations began well before election night. The polls and pundits pointed to a Democratic sweep, but Rove dismissed them all. In public, he predicted outright victory, flashing the V sign to reporters flying on Air Force One. He wasn't just trying to psych out the media and the opposition. He believed his 'metrics' were far superior to plain old polls. Two weeks before the elections, Rove showed NEWSWEEK his magic numbers: a series of graphs and bar charts that tallied early voting and voter outreach. Both were running far higher than in 2004. In fact, Rove thought the polls were obsolete because they relied on home telephones in an age of do-not-call lists and cell phones. Based on his models, he forecast a loss of 12 to 14 seats in the House—enough to hang on to the majority. Rove placed so much faith in his figures that, after the elections, he planned to convene a panel of Republi-can political scientists—to study just how wrong the polls were."

But there is some good in the media. Maybe a model of what journalism can turn back to as this article implys:

Olbermann taps a well of discontent as the anti-O'Reilly:
"And just like that, Olbermann found his voice -- the angry everyman. He became a liberal counterpoint to conservative media ranters like O'Reilly and Rush Limbaugh, and an Internet star, too.

The result has been a cultural earthquake."

Internets 3.0:

Entrepreneurs See a Web Guided by Common Sense:
Referred to as Web 3.0, the effort is in its infancy, and the very idea has given rise to skeptics who have called it an unobtainable vision. But the underlying technologies are rapidly gaining adherents, at big companies like I.B.M. and Google as well as small ones. Their projects often center on simple, practical uses, from producing vacation recommendations to predicting the next hit song."

Six times? Jeebus. Talk about 'hell hath no fury'. Just wait until she gets out of hospital.

Brazilian woman survives 6 shots to head:
"SAO PAULO, Brazil - A woman was released from the hospital a day after she was shot in the head six times in an attack police blamed on her ex-husband, Brazilian media reported Saturday.

Patricia Goncalves Pereira, a 21-year-old housewife, was shot Friday after an altercation with her ex-husband, who was upset because she refused to get back together with him, Globo TV reported.

'I know this was a miracle,' Pereira told the TV network. 'Now I just want to extract the bullets and live my life.'

DBT Week in Review - 11/10

I'm still dying so I'm slapping together bits and pieces for a DBT WIR today. I think I created a ball of seething political anger in my stomach in 2000. Over the past 6 years I've added to that seething ball. With the elections going to the good guys on Tuesday, I was finally able to release this ball but not without some bad side effects. One must suffer for the cause, though, and I'm sure that I'll start internally repairing the inevitable ulcer I had been working on. Yeah, that's what I'm going with.

Alka-Selter, in all its forms, ROCKS ya'll.

Drive-By Truckers:

The benefit will be held on December 1, 2006 at Nui's Space in Athens, GA. "

Friday Night Lights" and the Drive-By Truckers:
"WOW!

Please tune into NBCchannel 4at 8pm tonight for 'Friday Night Lights.'

'Friday Night Lights' - The Fall's best new series - Associated Press

Tonight'sepisode will feature the song 'Goodbye' byRazor & Tie Music
Publishing writers, the Drive-By Truckers."

RE: "Friday Night Lights" and the Drive-By Truckers:
"This is exciting.

I actually work with the Music Supervisor for Friday Night Lights on another project and I’ve been hyping up DBT to her for a long time. I got her to listen to the new record a few weeks ago and she really responded to it. So since then, every time we speak, I ask her when she’s going to get DBT on the show and she always says she’s working on it but that the producers have been keeping the music mostly hiphop.

Anyway, as soon as I saw this I spoke to her again and she was excited to say that she finally convinced those people to include the music. And according to her, tonight’s episode will include “Goodbye” and next week’s episode will have “Gravity’s Gone.” So it’s more than just a one time thing.

DBT on Air America Radio:
"I was listening to Politically Direct with David Bender on Air America Friday night, and lo and behold, he used My Sweet Annette as bumper music. I am glad to see the band getting some publicity in the progressive press!!

-jon"

dbts : Message: Have you heard this?:
"Before the Drams hit the stage Saturday night, Jimmy Smith (thesoundman) was playing some interesting music. Has anyone here heard of Beatallica? Brent mentioned them through the show. These guys play Metallica style music, with Beatles style lyrics. www.beatallica.com

They cannot release the music officially. It seems that though Metallica is ok with the concept, the current owner of the Beatles catalog is against it. So, since it can't officially be released, they
are allowing free downloads on their website. It was highly recommended by Brent, FWIW.

Brad

dbts : Message: No dbt Just a happy ending:
"Whatup yawl!
I've been kind of hiding from the list lately with to much work and yahoo fucking up and all. Anyway something happened at work the other day that was pretty cool and I just wanted to share. Seems a puppy got stuck in a sewer pipe and some co-workers had to go fish it out. They didn't know how they were going to get it out without digging and even that could have scared the puppy into taking off and getting lost in the miles and miles of underground pipe. We sent a camera down the pipe in hopes of finding it. That's when the good part happened. The puppy saw the lights from the camera and fallowed it over 100ft back out the pipe. Happy ending for all. Well almost all. Seems the fire dept got all the praise in the locale rag without a word about us! Bastards.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t2Guw_qimoY"

Kyle

Re: No dbt Just a happy ending:
"You really don't want to know what that was! Really! It was a sewer you know. Also I got the full story today from the guys that did the saving. Seems the puppy had fallen into a sewer clean out up by the house (that would be that little PVC cap sticking out of the ground near your house where the plumber buts a thing called a snake to unclog the pipes when your house backs up) This happened at 8:00am The camera crew was called out around 5:00pm after the fire dept had already dug up half this guys yard. Where they found the puppy was in the city sewer main two blocks from the house.

What this means is the puppy had been in the ground for 9 hours already without food or 'clean' water. The camera found him 170' from the manhole. Every time I watch this I keep thinking the poor thing could just give up and lay down and die! And the part at the end when it goes from concrete pipe to PVC (Plastic) and the puppy doesn't want to walk on it because it so slippery! That and the camera got stuck on the off set pipe joint and the nose it was making scared him. They told me they where scared he would take off back up the pipe.
Another 300ft away was a really big sewer main (36') that would have washed his ass away had he gone that far.

Damn I made this a long story!
Kyle"

Bush's Intervention #2

I crawled out of the bathroom long enough to cobble together this post. Damn you cursed stomach flu!

So this election thingy... Pretty cool, huh? This was America's intervention on George Bush and the Republican party. Phase 1 was to confront the power addicts. Finally, we all got together and told Bush that he was dick. We might soften the blow and by telling him that he 'acts' like a dick all the time and that we just know there's probably a cool little dude in their somewhere but if he wants to change he has to commit himself to Phase 2 and 3.

Phase 2 is to get Georgie to stop running around with that gang of losers he loves so. He's already ditched one, Rummy. We can only hope that Face-Shooter gets tossed, too.

Phase 3: He has to do everything the Dems tell him for the next 2 years. Period.

If he fails then impeach his ass.

_______

But when will the press come around? Probably never. Republicans can never 'lose' or 'have a bad day' as far as they're concerned.

Examples:

Dems win big, progressive policies enjoy broad public support -- but Wash. Post declares nation "right of center"

TAPPED:
"THE DAY AFTER. It's nice to finally write one of these election wrap-ups that doesn't have to account for a massive Democratic disappointment. Change is good, right? What it does have to do is punch back against the remarkably coordinated and quick campaign from the right (and sometimes the right includes the left) seeking to paint this election as some sort of victory for ... conservatism."

Daily Kos: These new Dems sure are conservative!:
"One of the most moronic media lines last night, and continuing through today, is how 'conservative' these newly elected Democrats are.

Except, that they're not."
Sigh. Old media, ye are completely worthless.

New media, though.... we've got your back:

Blogs Take Lead in Reporting Polling Problems, With Supporting Evidence on YouTube
"Blogs of all political stripes spent most of yesterday detailing reports of voting machine malfunctions and ballot shortages, effectively becoming an online national clearinghouse of the polling problems that still face the election system.

And in a new twist this year, many bloggers buttressed their accounts of electoral shenanigans with links to videos posted on the video Web site YouTube."
So as our government appears to have turned a corner, we regular Americans can take back the 'doing stupid shit' mantle. It is what we do best:

Man Decides to Speed in Jail Parking Lot:
"A Marathon man reportedly driving with a suspended license and carrying drugs picked the wrong place to speed: the parking lot of the Monroe County jail."

The Terrorist Have Won - Woo-Hoo!

Three cheers for the Terrorist! Way to get out there and vote my fellow Terrorist. Let's kick open those borders and legalize gay abortions! Woo-hoo!!! Party time!!!!

Stephen Colbert, when he bitterly called the House for the Dems last night, said "We should just give the country back the goddamn Indians". And then this jewel, "We were this close (thumb and forefinger held inches apart) to Jesus coming back".

It really has to be a rough day for the kool aide drinking Republicans. Let's take a look at some of the responses on a popular conservative posting board:

Free Republic Gives Up & Dies - Wonkette:
"OBL has won, who would have imagined that the MSM/DNC would succeed in giving Saddam and Sons, OBL, Bill Maher, Keith Olberman, and John Kerry a victory. We have no choice now, the commie vampire media must be destroyed."
Wuh-wuh-wuh-waaaaaaaaaaaa-wwwwwaaaaaaaaaaa.

Always gracious in their indictments... I mean defeat:

Dems take House; Senate hangs on 2 neck-to-neck races:
"'We took a whipping last night, and we understand that,' DeLay told CNN's 'American Morning.' 'The Democrats didn't win, the Republicans lost.'"
"They got a name for the winners of the world (Democrats) yet I want a name when I lose (Republicans)"

And the winning didn't just happen on a national level. We won a majority of Governorships and...

Democrats win majority of state legislatures

So yesterday was definitely a....

Smackdown! By Independents & Moderates

Can't you just see Laura forcing Georgie to make this phone call. "But I don't wanna"!:

Bush extends Democrats congratulations

Yes, more rockers are needed in government. Congressman Hood sounds nice.

Ex-Rocker John Hall Wins Upset in NY Congressional Race:
"NEW YORK John Hall, leader of the rock group Orleans that recorded such hits as 'Still the One' and 'Dance With Me,' has won a stunning upset in his race for Congress in upstate New York, narrowly defeating Republican incumbent Sue Kelly 51%-49%."
That's all I've got today. I just gonna kick back and enjoy the win. Thanks to all those who voted for the good guys!

108. When a reporter asked Rep. Don Young (R-AK) if he would redirect spending on his bridge projects to Katrina victim housing, Young said, “They can kiss my ear!”

109. There were just 12 hours of hearings on Abu Ghraib. (There were more than 100 hours of hearings on alleged misuse of the Clinton Christmas card list.)

Ummmm, you reap what you sow? Not sure what snark is most appropriate for this one, but there's been heavy usage of 'hypocrite' of late and I don't want to burn out on that word since it is so applicable to so many things these days.....

We've outsourced our political telemarketing... jeezeus.

Phonebank accents irk congressman:
"FORT WAYNE, Ind., Nov. 5 (UPI) -- A Republican congressman in Indiana complains that telemarketers calling voters on his behalf have such heavy foreign accents they cannot be understood.

Rep. Mark Souder told the Fort Wayne Journal Gazette that in one call left on his daughter's answering machine, the only word he could understand was 'Hayhurst' -- the name of his Democratic opponent, Tom Hayhurst."

Meth and Man Ass

First order of business today:

VOTE FOR A DEMOCRAT TOMORROW!!!!

Of the several reasons why you should vote for a Democrat, here are a few:

Take the One Breath challenge. Can you name all of the indicted Repulicans in one breath? There's a c-note in it for ya if you can.

_______

No one could have predicted the cluster fuck in Iraq? Well, someone did and that someone was.... the U.S. of A. 1999 war games foresaw problems in Iraq
The U.S. government conducted a series of secret war games in 1999 that anticipated an invasion of Iraq would require 400,000 troops, and even then chaos might ensue.

In its 'Desert Crossing' games, 70 military, diplomatic and intelligence officials assumed the high troop levels would be needed to keep order, seal borders and take care of other security needs.
_______

But that's ok. Doesn't matter. George Bush and friends are actually posting nuke instructions on the web.... Seriously. Iraqi nuclear research pulled off Web / Experts call archive posted by U.S. a dangerous cookbook
"Last March, the federal government set up a Web site to make public a vast archive of Iraqi documents captured during the war.

The Bush administration did so under pressure from congressional Republicans who said they hoped to 'leverage the Internet' to find new evidence of the prewar dangers posed by Saddam Hussein.

But in recent weeks, the site has posted some documents that weapons experts say present a danger themselves: detailed accounts of Iraq's secret nuclear research before the 1991 Persian Gulf War. The documents, the experts say, constitute a basic guide to building an atom bomb.

Experts "shocked".
_______

Feeling safer? Gosh I know I am. Those Republican sure keep me sleepin' well at night. They do some mighty fine protectin', don't they?

But hey, atleast they know how to sink as low as possible in order to hold onto power:

How Republicans poisoned politics:
"The other familiar excuse for negative advertising is that 'everybody does it.' Newspaper stories about attack commercials usually include a sampling of harsh Democratic spots in an effort to appear evenhanded. But there's really no comparison between what the two parties and their respective surrogates are doing. According to factcheck.org, a respected site that reviews the accuracy of various ads, 'the National Republican Campaign Committee's work stands out this year for the sheer volume of assaults on the personal character of Democratic House challengers.' Negative Democratic ads tie Republican candidates to President Bush, and to the Iraq war, or accuse them of being in the tank for the oil or pharmaceutical industries. But Democratic ads do not charge that their opponents 'prey on our children'—even though one recently resigned following accusations that he did precisely that. One can only imagine the ads Republicans would have made this year if Mark Foley had happened to be a Democrat."

But I saved the best for last. If your a hypocritical evangelical clap your hands. *sonic boom*

This one goes out to all you evangelicals who have had yet another one of your leaders fall prey to the evil homosexual agenda.

METH AND MAN ASS

Cause, you know, those homos are all about convincing others to snort some Meth and then call up some male hookers for a 'massage' orgy.

METH AND MAN ASS

Yeah, it could never have anything to do with an evangelical actually being gay but who has had to repress his true being due to one tiny passage in a book written by men (though it is believed to be the word of god. Damn, you evangs need to look for the man behind the curtain every once and a while) The perpetual scowl from you sex deprived, sex terrified, sex terrorized, sex terrorist, sex hatin', hypocrites, has caused a lie of a life.

METH AND MAN ASS

So without any further ado, the next smash hit that all the kids will be dancing to..... I give you:

That's right. Meth and Man ass. Get you some.

A coworker turned me onto this site last Friday and she's ordering one of their videos that I get to borrow. I'd love to take a vacation with them. Here's an article and below is a link to the website:

A Guide to the Worst Places on Earth - Newsweek Entertainment - MSNBC.com: "Vice
Magazine and under the creative direction of video and now film's Spike Jonze (Fatboy Slim's 'Weapon of Choice,' 'Being John Malkovich,' 'Adaptation'), forgoes the gated resorts of Jamaica and spas of New Mexico to run with illegal-arms dealers in Pakistan, converse with dirty-bomb dealers in Bulgaria and shoot wild, radioactive boar in Chernobyl. In one segment, a Vice reporter goes to Paraguay to visit the failed Nazi commune of Nueva Germania and finds its last two inhabitants living in squalor. He interviews locals who remember Dr. Josef Mengele, dubbed 'The Angel of Death' during World War II because of his horrific surgical experiments on Auschwitz prisoners. The villagers recall that during his last days, he ate out of tin cans and spent each night screaming in his sleep."

DBT WIR - 11/3

UPDATE: 5 P.M. PST - Patterson's got some new post up on his Gibson blog. Check 'em

Via Jane from the Yahoo Group: There's a great article in Flagpole with Patterson.

Biggest tidbit in the article is a documentary of the Truckers that should be in film festivals next year. Oh, fucking boy! I'm almost erect at the thought of a DBT documentary.

Here's the link to the article. It may not work b/c Flagpole has some weird web set up so go to the main Flagpole site. Find "Music" on the right hand side and click "Features".

"That calling to rock and roll is what filmmaker Barr Weissman has been exploring in his upcoming documentary about the Drive-By Truckers.

'Barr's not a music guy. That's what attracted us to him when he first made the pitch to us,' says Hood. 'He had never done anything that had to do with music before, and we really liked that. We didn't want to do a music video or a business kinda thing, a band versus their record company story. His pitch to us was that he considered himself one of those people who uses that phrase, 'rock and roll saved my life as a teenager.' He wanted to [make] a love letter to those aspects of rock 'n' roll that starred us.

'That's one of the things all the members of our band all have in common is we all fall into that group of people that never really found anything that we fit into other than rock 'n' roll music.'

Now in post-production, the film is slated for a tour of film festivals next year."

Nine Bullets' posting board has been on fire of late with all kinds of fun things. Definitely go on over and check out the picture, setlist and reviews of some of DBT's last shows. My two favorite post of the week have been from the mind of Kudzu Guillotine:

First, in the spirit of Colbert (the Comedy Central host, not the county in AL) Kudzu puts us "On Notice"

Then he creates one hell of a fun post with the DBT Picture Game:

Nine Bullets:
"The object is to offer a picture, or a series of pictures as clues. Once someone gives the correct answer some new picture clues can be posted. I'll start 'er off with this one: "
My favorite so far is the "Daddy's Cup" picture combo. Hysterical. But that ain't the only 'laugh-out-load' post in that thread.

The DBT Yahoo Board has been hopping as well. With Nine Bullets and the Yahoo Group, we're going to have plenty to talk about and plenty new music to discover while our boys and girl are on hiatus.

Anthony raises the blood pressure with this inspired post after the Memphis show:

dbts : Message: Memphis:
"Ladies and Gentlemen- The Mutha Fuckin DRIVE BY TRUCKERS!!!

And so began the sonic assault Friday night in Memphis. Here it is Sunday afternoon, and I'm still feeling the effects of such a rocking show. My ears are feeling a little better, my lungs are able to expand a little more, my abdominal muscles are sore, I have a little more of my voice back. I got gang raped by DBT and loved every minute of it."
"Gang raped by DBT...." Every young boy and girls fantasy, indeed!

Here's something from Mark Brown regarding the Memphis show:

dbts : Message: Re: Memphis:
It was the end of the tour with the Drams, nearly the end of the tour for DBT and it is capping a great run for this band. They will finish the year and take some time off. Everyone in the band is looking forward to that and they deserve it. A year will bring change, new solo albums out, family time and fresh loads of inspiration. Who knows what is next but whatever it is and wherever it leads, you can be sure that I will follow....The Drive-By Truckers!!"
We're all following right behing you Mark!

We welcome Nancy to the DBT family and Yahoo Group. She joined the group and gave us a big "Howdo". We "Howdo" right back and asked her how she got turned on to DBT. Her response:

dbts : Message: what a warm and fuzzy welcome!!:
"I got turned on to DBT through, of all things, The New Yorker magazine. I read it religiously and a few years back, I really can't remember exactly when, there was a review of a concert DBT did in the city. A really GLOWING review. It was well written and persuasive enough that I tucked DBT into the recesses of my brain, thinking if I ever ran across them in my travels I would have to check them out. Fast forward a year or two: I was scheduled to go to NYC for a conference and while perusing the net to see who might be playing out in the clubs there, I discover DBT is booked to play at Irving Place while I am there. Secured tickets to the show, went to the show and never looked back. At that point, I was only familiar with 'The Dirty South' and 'Decoration Day' ( both of which I still enjoy playing for the uninitiated .... the response invariably is 'who IS that?' ). I have only been able to catch them one other time, at the SPAC in Albany last summer when they opened for the Black Crowes. I actually forked over a large wad of cash to one of the internet scalper deals so I could get a seat fairly close to the stage, and I truly was only interested in the concert because of DBT. It was, naturally, very disappointing to have very few folks actually present for their concert and have them play such a short time, but hey, I was happy just to be able to hear/see them live again."

Here's another newbie, Cathy, who just posted today for the first time:

dbts : Message: DBT at Voodoo Fest:
"Good evening!

I joined this list so I could tell someone who'd understand about how the DBT set at Voodoo Fest had tears running down my face, and I wasn't even thinking sad thoughts. The general themes, which are familiar to you all, just seemed to uncork something in this New Orleanian."

Cathy
Very nice, Cathy. Thanks for sharin'. We love our Nawlins folk.

Other Music News

This article isn't tellin' us DBT Yahoo Board members anything we don't already know:

Music may ease symptoms of schizophrenia:
"LONDON (Reuters) - Music therapy many help to ease the depression, anxiety and emotional withdrawal symptoms of schizophrenia, British scientists said on Wednesday."

Maybe someday they'll wheel Patterson and Cooley across they stage in Cleveland, each holding the other's colostomy bag, to be inducted.

Rock Hall of Fame names nominees for `07:
"NEW YORK - Van Halen is trying to make their biggest 'jump' yet — into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, with potential 2007 classmates such as R.E.M., Chic, and Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five."

Gene Simmons... Marketing Super Genius:

Smells Like Middle-Age Spirit:
"Lending a whole new meaning to the phrase 'kiss and make up,' the legendary rock band KISS has brought its brand name to a cosmetics counter near you. Those who want to adopt the 'rock and roll all night, party all day' lifestyle can now forgo the exhausting social whirl, and only spritz on some eau de Gene Simmons. KISS Him cologne and KISS Her perfume, which went on sale on Oct. 1, are sold in department and retail stores for around $39."

So, the networks refused to air the Dixie Chicks promo for their documentary, which is totally politically, bullshittedly motivated:

The networks' refusal to accept ads for The Dixie Chicks documentary:
"The new documentary, Shut Up & Sing, chronicles the hostile and sometimes threatening conduct directed towards The Dixie Chicks after one of the group's members criticized the Commander-in-Chief, President George W. Bush, during a 2003 concert. The documentary is being distributed by Harvey Weinstein's film company, and a preview for the film can be seen here."

Natalie Maines rocks the house, though.

Update: Lou Reed releases a techno remis of Wild Side. He changes the lyrics to bash Bush, so, even thought the remix kinda sucks, IMO, still its Lou Reed and he's bashing Bush.
