I'm thoroughly immersed in Lera Lynn's debut record 'Have You Met Lera Lynn'. If I was the type to write record reviews I would write and extremely glowing one.
As I was searching for more Lera Lynn stuff on Soundcloud I came across the below. I have some background in dance/house music. This is a great ambient electronic pop piece that Lera lend her vocals to.
"Third Man Records is happy to announce the latest in our live show and live LP series, Drive-By Truckers.
In anticipation for their upcoming album, “Go-Go Boots” (out Feb 15th on ATO) and following up from their sold out show at The Cannery Ballroom, the Truckers will be performing a special matinee all ages show here at Third Man Records on this Sunday Jan. 30th that will be recorded direct to analog tape for release as a live LP (and a limited Black & Blue split colored LP for those in attendance)."
"“It’s already out as far as we are concerned,” said guitarist and longtime band member Mike Cooley. “They (fans) already know the words and they’re liking it.”"
"No final tallies yet on the Nuci's Space fundraiser, but I'm suspecting it will end up in the $20,000 range. I will keep everyone posted as those figures come to me. Thanks to everyone who bought tickets to the show and to everyone who came out to Nuci's Space and made bids on the fine art and memorabilia there. I'd also like to thank all of the artists who donated their wares to the cause. Kudos to the Camp Amped Sampler Band that opened Thursdays benefit show. They were amazing. I look forward to seeing what each and every one of them do in the future."
"While the band played nine new tracks from The Big To Do as well as this tribute 7”, they also ensured that the hometown fans received more than their money’s worth, as they played an assortment of songs from across their catalog. Singers Patterson Hood and Mike Cooley alternated on lead vocals for fan favorites including “Three Dimes Down,” “Lookout Mountain” and “Women Without Whiskey,” providing the crowd with plenty a number to sing along with."
"Efter udgivelsen af debuten Gangstabilly i 1998 stod det ikke ligefrem skrevet i stjernerne, at Drive-By Truckers skulle ghen og blive et af de vigtigste amerikanske southern rock bands i nyere tid, men det er lige prcis hvad der er sket!"

"The only thing hotter than the triple-digit temperatures at last year’s Coachella festival in Indio was the music produced by some of the event’s most potent artists. Few of them sizzled as much (or seemed as effortlessly cool) as Memphis soul legend Booker T., who performs Saturday at the Poway Center for the Performing Arts. The results were so joyous and exuberant that it was difficult to determine who was beaming more, the sweat-drenched members of the audience or Booker T. and his band (which at Coachella just happened to be top Southern rock band Drive By Truckers)."
"Undertow Orchestra was a songwriters “supergroup” featuring David Bazan, Vic Chesnutt, Mark Eitzel, and Will Johnson (assisted by multi-instrumentalist Scott Danbom)."
"Meet the most influential man you've never heard of.
Bob Lefsetz, a 56-year-old blogger, is to music what Nikki Finke is to Hollywood -- a reclusive, sardonic writer who has the ear of every exec in the industry, but is little known and of little consequence outside of it.
"The 14-minute 'Thriller' is among 25 films the Library of Congress on Wednesday named to the registry, and it became the first music video included in the 2009 list of cultural treasures that will be preserved for all time."
"2. 25th Hour (2002): Spike Lee filmed this screen version of David Benioff's novel, about a New York drug dealer (Edward Norton) on his last day of freedom, just months after the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks. The first great 21st century film made about a 21st century subject, Lee's movie was a meditation on New York and America, and it captured for all time the spiritual misery and confusion that followed that tragedy. Misunderstood as just a pretty good movie in its time, it's an American masterpiece."
"7. 'Slings and Arrows,' Sundance Channel. Three smart, funny, subtle and emotionally rewarding seasons made this Canadian series one of those rare finds worth seeking out. Set at a troubled Shakespearean theater company, the literate and witty story lines revolved around not only the performers and their backstage antics and offstage personalities but also the overwhelming transformative power of the Bard himself, played by people who really felt the words. A gem."
"'We're just trying to get out name out there as much as possible and push the first record we did,'said bassist Corey Hannah. 'Summer's coming up, and we're starting to book some more shows.'"
If you don't link the reading thing give the video that accompanies the article a look. Lauderdale is playing their yet to released tune 'Grant Hotel'. It is a goodie.
Let's stay in the Shoals for some really big news from another one of my favorites, Sons of Roswell.
Kevin Keenum has departed the band. As a fan it bums me out a bit. I really dig Kevin's sound and style. Wish him the best of luck in all of his future endeavors.
But as the Rock Gods taketh away, they also giveth.
Kevin is being replaced by an incredible young artist by the name of Dylan LeBlanc. Corey from Lauderdale turned me onto to Dylan a few months ago. Dylan comes from a hell of a pedigree and his music is something to behold.
Also, SOR got a gig at Bonaroo. Congrats, fellas!
More from SOR:
Sons of Roswell
Folks,
We have tons of news for you.
First off... Many of you have been asking and we haven't been talking much, but this is the official word. Due to personal duties Kevin Keenum has decided to depart from Sons of Roswell. We have found a very suitable replacement in the young talent of Dylan LeBlanc. With this will bring a new sound, and we will probably discontinue the old songs live. We have plenty of new songs coming your way and will debut them next Friday... at none other than the Smokehouse in Downtown Florence, Alabama. Please keep an open mind with us for a bit as we all adapt to the change. We promise not to make it to hard of a change to adapt to.
The album will be released. Details on that will come soon enough. Please bear with us for a little while longer. You may like what you will be hearing about the release too.
BONNAROO! Yes, that's right, this was the hold up in making this whole announcement in the first place. We wanted to wait until we could have it all at once. We found out around 2:30 p.m. today. We will be playing the Sonic Stage at Bonnaroo next Saturday, June 14, 2008 at 1:30 p.m., right before TWO GALLANTS! We're pretty stoked to be playing among the likes of My Morning Jacket, Drive-By Truckers, M.I.A., Robert Plant & Allison Kraus, and tons more of people that inspire us. So please, if you are attending this festival, please come check us out with the new tunes and hang with us and we rip straight through the festival ground Saturday and Sunday checking out all our favorite artists until we can't walk any more.
With the line-up changes and new songs, we will be immediately going into the studio. We're hoping to post a new track later on tonight, so keep an eye out. We will post it on our MySpace and OurStage accounts. We will make the announcement in a MySpace bulletin at the time of the post. Please give us your feed back on the new tune.
"Not to take anything away from Ms. LaVette, but the accolades for this record certainly should be shared with Patterson Hood, who co-produced it with David Barbe and LaVette, and Hood and partner Mike Cooley's band, Drive-By Truckers, who play on it. Hood, who hails from the Muscle Shoals area of Alabama, and his cohorts give The Scene of the Crime its delta-rock, deep soul sound, shading and elevating LaVette's still-powerful, touched-by-God vocals. To be more precise, Hood and DBT take what would have been a very good record on its own and make it one for the ages."
"Background: My kids are 8 and 6. My son, the 8 year old, is really into rock music. He and I have been taking guitar lessons together since December, and he loves to listen to my CD's and playlists I've made for him on my ipod. He loves Led Zep, the Beatles, Nirvana, U2, etc. He's like a piece of moldable clay and it's my job to raise him right - I do not want him listening to crap! Anyway, I discovered DBT back in February and I've been listening to them pretty much non stop ever since, and as anyone who has little ones at home will tell you, if dad's doing it, well they want to do it too. Which means my kids want to listen to DBT. That's the problem."
"Just a slideshow in memory of my dad Henry to a song by the Drive by Truckers, wanted to do it but kept putting the project to a later date(just couldn't do it). Just pics of him and some of the trucks he owned. Good guy, good guitar picker and great gearjammer. May he rest in peace."

Browan Lollar, guitarist for the 400 Unit, insists on bogarting all of the talent.
He's created a new MySpace to showcase some of his art work. Great stuff. Hints of Dali and his portraits are awesome.
"Donna Jean Thatcher was raised in the Tennessee River valley at Muscle Shoals, Ala., a small, remote town that grew into a center for recording Southern soul. In her teens, she was singing background vocals on albums recorded at local studios by out-of-towners looking for that authentic soul sound such as Boz Scaggs or Cher. She was also the high school's head cheerleader and her boyfriend was the halfback. She sometimes had both cheerleader practice and recording sessions scheduled on Saturdays and would have to show up at the studio in her cheerleader outfit."
"Alton Kelley, one of the founding members of the '60s San Francisco rock scene, died Sunday at his home in Petaluma after a long illness. He was 67.
Mr. Kelley will be remembered as the creator (with his artistic partner, Stanley Mouse) of hundreds of classic psychedelic rock posters, such as the famed 'skull and roses' poster for a Grateful Dead show at the Avalon Ballroom. Mr. Kelley and Mouse created 26 posters for just the first year of the Avalon's operation."
In an exclusive interview with The Times, published in T2 today, Dylan gives a ringing endorsement to Mr Obama, the first ever black presidential candidate, claiming he is 'redefining the nature of politics from the ground up"
"Asked about his views on American politics, he said: 'Well, you know right now America is in a state of upheaval. Poverty is demoralising. You can't expect people to have the virtue of purity when they are poor.
'But we've got this guy out there now who is redefining the nature of politics from the ground up...Barack Obama.
'He's redefining what a politician is, so we'll have to see how things play out. Am I hopeful? Yes, I'm hopeful that things might change. Some things are going to have to.'
He added: “You should always take the best from the past, leave the worst back there and go forward into the future.'"
"Sacks' most recent book is 'Musicophilia: Tales of Music and the Brain,' which examines the relationship between music and the brain, including its healing effect on people suffering from such diseases as Tourette's syndrome, Parkinson's, autism and Alzheimer's."
"JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Bo Diddley, a founding father of rock 'n' roll whose distinctive 'shave and a haircut, two bits' rhythm and innovative guitar effects inspired legions of other musicians, died Monday after months of ill health. He was 79."
"'Artists need not fear structure, we just have to design and partner with expansive ideas,' she said. 'It is time for us as artists to stop being dependent, dependent on any system that has become undependable. Only then can we help to create a new system that propagates and secures independence for each creator.'"
"All videos of Prince's unique rendition of Radiohead's early hit were quickly taken down, leaving only a message that his label, NPG Records, had removed the clips, claiming a copyright violation. But the posted videos were shot by fans and, obviously, the song isn't Prince's."
