Let's start with a little musical medicine, then.

Courage Campaign | Support the resolution to impeach Judge Jay Bybee:

"'These memos are not an honest attempt to set the legal limits on interrogations....They were written to provide legal immunity for acts that are clearly illegal, immoral and a violation of this country’s most basic values....These memos make it clear that (Judge Jay) Bybee is unfit for a job that requires legal judgment and a respect for the Constitution. Congress should impeach him.' -- Editorial in the New York Times, Sunday, April 19

When President Barack Obama released the contents of President Bush's torture memos, America learned the full extent of the horror that was unleashed at Guanatanamo Bay on detainees. One of the memos was written by Jay Bybee in August 2002. It authorized the use of waterboarding, 'cramped confinement', 'walling' -- where a detainee's head is repeatedly pushed against a wall -- and even putting insects into a confined space with a detainee.

Jay Bybee is now a federal judge here in California, serving on the important Ninth Circuit Federal Court of Appeals, based in San Francisco. He has not been held accountable for the lawbreaking he committed and enabled.

The California grassroots are determined to change that. Los Angeles Democratic activists John Heaner, Agi Kessler and Richard Mathews have sponsored a resolution calling on the House of Representatives to begin impeachment proceedings against Jay Bybee."

It simply doesn't work.

Col. Jack Jacobs on torture: I got more out of using cigarettes, medical care and food | Crooks and Liars:
"MSNBC's military analyst retired Col. Jack Jacobs said that it was an astounding number.

Norah: Are you surprised by the number, two hundred and sixty six time on two terrorism suspects?

Jacobs: It's kind of astounding isn't it? You think after one or two times it didn't work, you wouldn't keep trying. Clearly, if you're doing it that many times it should be obvious to the casual observer that the technique is not working. Usually the information that you can get that's useful, you can get with very easy techniques. I've been in combat plenty of times, captured lots of bad guys and invariably got lots of information out of them using cigarettes, medical care and food. Most of the stuff that you're going to get when you give people a had time, most of it is going to be information that they're going to give just to shut you up or to get you to stop doing what you're doing to them."

Wonder twin idiots... either that or liars. I'll go with Gingrich the Liar and Boner the Crying Idiot. That seems about right. Fair and balanced and all.

History Professor Gingrich Falsely Claims U.S. Presidents Don’t ‘Smile And Greet’ Russian Leaders

Top House Republican: Idea that CO2 is harmful is ‘comical’:

"In a boisterous exchange with ABC’s George Stephanopoulos, the top House Republican said that declaring carbon dioxide a pollutant was “almost comical” and repeated denials that humans are responsible for global warming.

“George, the idea that carbon dioxide is a carcinogen that is harmful to our environment is almost comical,” House Minority Leader John Boehner (R-OH) quipped. “Every time we exhale, we exhale carbon dioxide. Every cow in the world, you know, when they do what they do, you’ve got more carbon dioxide."

Really? 50% don't get it? WTF. This isn't difficult to understand.

Rainy Weather Forecasts Misunderstood by Many:

"To bring an umbrella or not to bring an umbrella? That's the perennial question on those days where the chance of rain is less than 100 percent.

But only half the population understands what a precipitation forecast means well enough to make a fully informed answer, a new study finds.

If, for example, a forecast calls for a 20 percent chance of rain, many people think it means that it will rain over 20 percent of the area covered by the forecast. Others think it will rain for 20 percent of the time, said Susan Joslyn, a cognitive psychologist at the University of Washington who conducted the study.

The reality: 'When a forecast says there is a 20 percent chance of rain tomorrow it actually means it will rain on 20 percent of the days with exactly the same atmospheric conditions,' Joslyn explained.

Put another way, on that day there's an 80 percent chance there will be no rain anywhere in the forecast are"

Obonga

How freakin' convenient. Can we impeach now?

White House missing CIA, Iraq e-mails :

"WASHINGTON - Apparent gaps in White House e-mail archives coincide with dates in late 2003 and early 2004 when the administration was struggling to deal with the CIA leak investigation and the possibility of a congressional probe into Iraq intelligence failures.

The gaps — 473 days over a period of 20 months — are cited in a chart prepared by White House computer technicians and shared in September with the House Reform and Government Oversight Committee, which has been looking into reports of missing e-mail.

Among the times for which e-mail may not have been archived from Vice President Dick Cheney's office are four days in early October 2003, just as a federal probe was beginning into the leak of Valerie Plame's CIA identity, an inquiry that eventually ensnared Cheney's chief of staff."

"When the Gulfstream lands in St. Bart's, can you have your assistant set up a call? We need to talk.

Look, you've had a pretty good deal these past few years. We gave you everything you wanted. Massive reductions in the top income-tax rates? Happy to oblige. Cuts on dividends and capital gains taxes, which overwhelmingly benefit you? No problem. Going after the estate tax—excuse me, the death tax? You got it. We've even agreed to overlook the fact that you private-equity and hedge-fund managers pay only a 15 percent tax rate."

Please help a member of Congress whose doing the right thing. Sign Rep Wexler's Impeachment petition.

Join Wexler's Call for Cheney Hearings

Because.....

Playing war has great consequences.

That Man I Shot:

"The New York Times found 121 cases in which veterans of Iraq and Afghanistan committed a killing in this country, or were charged with one, after their return from war. In many of those cases, combat trauma and the stress of deployment — along with alcohol abuse, family discord and other attendant problems — appear to have set the stage for a tragedy that was part destruction, part self-destruction.

Three-quarters of these veterans were still in the military at the time of the killing. More than half the killings involved guns, and the rest were stabbings, beatings, strangulations and bathtub drownings. Twenty-five offenders faced murder, manslaughter or homicide charges for fatal car crashes resulting from drunken, reckless or suicidal driving."
_______

'Bomb Auschwitz to stop the killing'. Kinda pregnant.

Bush's answer to everything. Bomb it.

Bush: US should have bombed Auschwitz:

"President Bush had tears in his eyes during an hour-long tour of Israel's Holocaust memorial Friday and told Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice that the U.S. should have bombed Auschwitz to halt the killing, the memorial's chairman said."

Consumer group rips insurance industry

"WASHINGTON - U.S. insurance companies systematically overcharge customers and underpay home and auto claims to pad their already-fat bottom lines, a consumer group said Thursday.

The Consumer Federation of America's insurance director, J. Robert Hunter, said insurance companies have enjoyed robust profits and contained losses largely by 'methodically overcharging consumers, cutting back on coverage, underpaying claims and getting taxpayers to pick up some of the tab for risks the insurers should cover."

We the 'freakin' People.....

We have to impeach.....

Wexler Calls For Cheney's Impeachment:

"(The Politico) Rep. Robert Wexler (D-Fla.) is urging the House Judiciary Committee to begin impeachment hearings against Vice President Dick Cheney, despite opposition from House Democratic leaders.

Wexler, who first gained national attention for defending former President Bill Clinton during his impeachment in 1998, said Cheney has to be ousted in order to restore the balance of power between the executive and legislative branches, which in his view, has been eroded by an ever-expanding claim of authority under Cheney and President Bush.

'There's a litany of issues that need to be heard,' Wexler said. 'This administration has abused the power of executive privilege. This administration has completely avoided testifying before Congress on any one of a host of six, seven, eight issues."

White House reused e-mail tapes:

"WASHINGTON - The White House has acknowledged recycling its backup computer tapes of e-mail before October 2003, raising the possibility that many electronic messages — including those pertaining to the CIA leak case — have been taped over and are gone forever.

The disclosure came minutes before midnight Tuesday under a court-ordered deadline that forced the White House to reveal information it has previously refused to provide."

Huckabee: Amend Constitution to be in 'God's standards':

"The United States Constitution never uses the word 'God' or makes mention of any religion, drawing its sole authority from 'We the People.' However, Republican presidential candidate Mike Huckabee thinks it's time to put an end to that.

'I have opponents in this race who do not want to change the Constitution,' Huckabee told a Michigan audience on Monday. 'But I believe it's a lot easier to change the Constitution than it would be to change the word of the living god. And that's what we need to do -- to amend the Constitution so it's in God's standards rather than try to change God's standards so it lines up with some contemporary view.'

"I have a confession. During the shoving, I found myself yelling at O'Reilly to grow up, which was thoroughly unprofessional, except that I have little kids and I think it's important to discipline misbehavior immediately. "They are unanimous in their hate for me—and I welcome their hatred"

A-FREAKIN'-MEN! Liberal policies work best and we shouldn't eff them up simply because there is some unwarranted need to be 'bipartisan'. We need to be as partisan as the Rethugs have been over the past 30 years.

Why progressives should forget the middle ground.:

"What progressives should be focused on now is taking on the political movement that brought Bush to power. In short, what we need right now isn't Bush bashing—what we need is partisanship."
.....

"But any attempt to change America's direction, to implement a real progressive agenda, will necessarily be highly polarizing. Proposals for universal health care, in particular, are sure to face a firestorm of partisan opposition. And fundamental change can't be accomplished by a politician who shuns partisanship.

I like to remind people who long for bipartisanship that FDR's drive to create Social Security was as divisive as Bush's attempt to dismantle it. And we got Social Security because FDR wasn't afraid of division. In his great Madison Square Garden speech, he declared of the forces of 'organized money': 'Never before in all our history have these forces been so united against one candidate as they stand today. They are unanimous in their hate for me—and I welcome their hatred.'"

Now do your f**king jobs!

Its been foggy and blahhy in San Francisco the past few days... can bring a brother down, fo' sho'. Feeling kinda icky this morning until I checked my email and you'll never guess what I found in my in box. Some dude named Lopez emailed me and said he was a pro at getting people laid and could have me all sexed up in a matter of days.

'Nother fella wrote me and said he could increase the size of my penis by 4 inches. 4 INCHES!

Now I'm thinkin' today's not looking so bad after all. The future's lookin' bright!

Check out my buddy Shipper who lives in Palau:

He was tuna fishing off his boat the other day and caught something that was a non tuna.... a shark. Dave looks all manly in this picture like he's king of the jungle.... ocean.... ocean jungle.... whatever... but, per Dave: "When it started thrashing around in the boat, I screamed like a little girl".

The shark was safely returned to the water after a few pictures. Getting the hook out must of been a bitch, though.

Senator Russ Feingold posted a diary on DailyKos yesterday regarding his view on impeachment. I dig Russ' progressive stances on most issues. He's one of the good guys.

But he's dead wrong on the impeachment issue and several other DailyKos diarist let him know it.

His view is the same as Pelosi's and I let her know weekly via email or phone message how wrong she is.

If we do not hold these people accountable then the precedent set has the great possibility of eventually destroying this country. I, never again, want a Republican or a Democrat to have the power or ability to do what this administration has done.

This is a great example of the type of constructive dialog that occurs on DK.

Daily Kos: The Question of Impeachment - UPDATED

Sen Russ Fiengold

It is clear that there are many people in this country, including myself, who demand accountability from this Administration for the terrible mess it made in Iraq and its egregious and even illegal power grabs throughout its six-plus years in power. I believe that the President and Vice President may well have committed impeachable offenses. But with so many important issues facing this country and so much work to be done, I am concerned about the great deal of time multiple impeachment trials would take away from the Congress working on the problems of the country. The time it would take for the House to consider articles of impeachment, and for the Senate to conduct multiple trials, would make it very difficult, if not impossible, for Congress to do what it was elected to do – end the war and address some of the other terrible mistakes this Administration has made over the past six and a half years.

.......

While some have pointed to Republicans’ decision to impeach President Clinton, I am also concerned about the over-use of impeachment. And I am conscious of the fact that I would have a specific role to play as a sworn, impartial juror should an impeachment be tried in the Senate. If charges come to the Senate, I will approach them and the trial with the same seriousness that I had when I participated in the Clinton impeachment trial. I would not prejudge the case one way or the other should it come to this.

.......

I fully respect the anger and frustration many Americans feel with this Administration. I share much of it. But on balance, I think Congress’s time is much better spent ending the war in Iraq, conducting the oversight that was absent for the last six years, and advancing progressive legislation.

Responses:

Daily Kos: The Answer Of Impeachment:

"This is an important point of agreement. The question is why anyone would allow any Administration to get away with such crimes. It's disrespectful of the Constitution and the rule of law, and it also sets an extremely dangerous precedent."

Daily Kos: A Waste of Time Senator?:

"I would argue that there is no more egregious and illegal act than deliberately going before the American people and knowingly providing false information with the intent to take us to war."

Here's the more angry response to Russ.

Daily Kos: A Word to Senators and Congressfolk:

"We’re sick to death of all your lame excuses! We want action – and we’re not saying pretty please anymore. We’re not even asking. We’re telling you! We are demanding that you do the only conscionable thing in the present circumstances – bring those criminals to justice! And don’t you dare insult my intelligence by saying they ‘may have’ committed impeachable offenses. What planet have you been living on?

The only question is do you have the spine to deliver. Let me remind you, we are the rightful owners of this country, and the owners have spoken! Now do your fucking jobs!"

I'm not so naive as to believe that the South will quickly swing to the good guys side, but this is encouraging none the less.

Political Woes Dog Republicans Across the South - WSJ.com

The indictment is just one of the political headaches across the South that are making Republicans look more vulnerable than they have in years to losing ground in the region's legislatures and statehouses. Though there isn't any sign of them losing their dominance in the region, the once-formidable "Solid South" coalitions they forged in the 1980s and 1990s to end a century of Democratic dominion have given way to messy schisms and infighting. Today, they look a lot like the bitterly divided Democrats of three decades ago.

Coyotes attack dogs in Golden Gate Park:

"San Francisco officials posted warnings in Golden Gate Park on Sunday after the first known coyote attack in the city in decades, when a pair of the wild canines charged two leashed dogs on a small path in the park.

'We're taking this very seriously,' said Deb Campbell, spokeswoman for the San Francisco Animal Care and Control Department. 'We have officers looking for the coyotes, and we are letting the public know about these coyotes.'"
