_______

George Carlin - Wikiquote

There's a reason for this, there's a reason education sucks, and it's the same reason it will never ever ever be fixed. It's never going to get any better. Don't look for it. Be happy with what you've got... because the owners of this country don’t want that. I'm talking about the real owners now... the real owners. The big wealthy business interests that control things and make all the important decisions. Forget the politicians. The politicians are put there to give you the idea that you have freedom of choice. You don’t. You have no choice. You have owners. They own you. They own everything. They own all the important land. They own and control the corporations. They’ve long since bought and paid for the Senate, the Congress, the state houses, the city halls. They got the judges in their back pockets and they own all the big media companies, so they control just about all of the news and information you get to hear. They got you by the balls. They spend billions of dollars every year lobbying. Lobbying to get what they want. Well, we know what they want. They want more for themselves and less for everybody else, but I’ll tell you what they don’t want. They don’t want a population of citizens capable of critical thinking. They don’t want well-informed, well-educated people capable of critical thinking. They’re not interested in that. That doesn’t help them. That’s against their interests. That’s right. They don’t want people who are smart enough to sit around a kitchen table and think about how badly they’re getting fucked by a system that threw them overboard 30 fuckin’ years ago. They don’t want that. You know what they want? They want obedient workers. Obedient workers, people who are just smart enough to run the machines and do the paperwork. And just dumb enough to passively accept all these increasingly shittier jobs with the lower pay, the longer hours, the reduced benefits, the end of overtime and vanishing pension that disappears the minute you go to collect it. And now they’re coming for your Social Security money. They want your fuckin' retirement money. They want it back so they can give it to their criminal friends on Wall Street. And you know something? They’ll get it. They’ll get it all from you sooner or later 'cause they own this fuckin' place. It’s a big club and you ain't in it. You and I are not in the big club. By the way, it’s the same big club they use to beat you over the head with all day long when they tell you what to believe. All day long beating you over the head with their media telling you what to believe, what to think and what to buy. The table is tilted, folks. The game is rigged and nobody seems to notice. Nobody seems to care. Good, honest, hard-working people: white collar, blue collar, it doesn’t matter what color shirt you have on. Good, honest, hard-working people continue — these are people of modest means — continue to elect these rich cocksuckers who don’t give a fuck about them. They don’t give a fuck about you. They don’t give a fuck about you. They don’t care about you at all! At all! At all! And nobody seems to notice. Nobody seems to care. That’s what the owners count on. The fact that Americans will probably remain willfully ignorant of the big red, white and blue dick that’s being jammed up their assholes every day, because the owners of this country know the truth. It’s called the American Dream, 'cause you have to be asleep to believe it.

Research iz Hard

Research iz Hard.

Must be because Hawkin failed to give his computer voice an English accent.

Broken tubes - Paul Krugman Blog - NYTimes.com:

"And just as an illustration: a number of people have pointed this out, but here’s the latest in the “Obama’s health reform will kill people” news: Investor’s Business Daily — which poses as a reputable source of financial information — opines that

People such as scientist Stephen Hawking wouldn’t have a chance in the U.K., where the National Health Service would say the life of this brilliant man, because of his physical handicaps, is essentially worthless.

That would be Stephen Hawking, British professor, who was born in the UK and has lived there for his whole life."

Death Panels!!! So Scary.

Olbermann’s ‘Special Comment’ on Sarah Palin and conservative scare tactics:

"'Finally as promised, a special comment on this terrible moment in American history and those unfortunate and irresponsible Americans who have brought us to it. 'The America I know and love,' the quitter governor of Alaska Sarah Palin began, 'is not one in which my parents or my baby with Down's Syndrome will have to stand in front of Obama's death panel so his bureaucrats can decide based on a subjective judgment of their level of productivity in society whether they are worthy of health care. Such a system is downright evil.'

Course it is, Ms. Palin. And that is why is does not exist, has not existed and would never under this President nor any other President ever exist in this country.

There is NO death panel. There is no judgment based on societal productivity. There is no worthiness test. But there is downright evil, Ms. Palin, and you just served its cause. You shouted 'Fire!' in a crowded theatre, a hot theatre, and then today, tried to roll it back with 'no, no, sorry, not fire, I meant flashlights.' Too little, too late, too obvious. Madam, you a clear and present danger to the safety and security of this nation."

Whistleblower: Insurance firms ‘very much’ behind town hall disruptions:

"Health insurance companies deserve “a great deal of the blame” for the sometimes violent disruptions to town hall meetings on health care, says a former health insurance company executive turned whistleblower.

Wendell Potter, a former executive with health insurer Cigna who now works as the senior fellow on health care at the Center for Media and Democracy, told MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow that health insurance companies “are very much behind the town hall disruptions that you see and a lot of the deception that’s going on in terms of disinformation that many Americans, apparently, are believing.”

On her show Monday night, Maddow cited statistics from the Securities and Exchange Commission showing that profits at the US’s ten largest health insurance companies skyrocketed more than 400 percent between 2000 and 2007, from $2.4 billion in 2000 to $12.7 billion in 2007.

“Apparently while they quadrupled their profits, the number of Americans without health insurance grew by 19 percent,” Maddow said."

As rare as the Mammoth. Actual reporting by a traditional news source.

Shocking. Watch it.

The Washington Monthly:

"Last night, ABC News' Kate Snow tackled the vile right-wing demagoguery on end-of-life care, and while she refrained from calling Palin and her ilk 'liars,' she made it very clear that the accusations about euthanasia are completely wrong. It wasn't a he-said/she-said report; it was just reality.

Better yet, the ABC report noted that former New York Lt. Gov. Betsy McCaughey (R), whose propensity for misinformation is practically limitless, was responsible for starting this insane attack in the first place.

The more major news outlets run pieces like these, the better off the public will be."

Bitch, Please.: An Open Letter to Anti-Choicers:

"Just remember one thing: not a one of us babykillers have ever killed one of you.

We don't go into your 'Pregnancy Help Centers' and blow them up so you can stop scaring girls into having children they can't take care of and then forgetting about them and blaming them when they fall through the cracks of the system.

We don't shoot at your hatemongering pastors as they go into their places of worship, even though we know they'll be spewing more lies and filth about us and how evil we are and how we deserve to die, even though you all don't really get the irony of calling yourselves 'Pro-Life,' which you are decidedly not.

We don't block the doors to your doctors' offices, preventing you from getting your Viagra prescription so you can force your wife to submit to you, as every good Christian woman should.

And we don't fire your fucking asses for preventing women from obtaining access to medications that are prescribed to them privately, between them and their doctors, that have nothing to do with you, or your religion, or how many babies' souls you want to save today so you can meet your quota at the next potluck circlejerk."

"Call a man a baby killer, a Nazi, like al-Qaeda, like Stalin, like Hitler, do it for four years,” Olbermann continued. “Then, the last part of the ingredient, act surprised when somebody shoots the man.”

“A television channel that repeatedly branded those it criticized politically as baby killers, as executioners, as equivalents of Nazis, Hitler, Mao Zedong, al-Qaeda, Stalin,” the MSNBC host continues. “A television channel that repeatedly all but encouraged its viewers commit a religious jihad against one of those it criticized. Something from the extremists in the Middle East, the product of fiction? No, it is elsewhere on your television, and it is time that it be stopped peacefully before it enables the death of another George Tiller.”"

"The same hate machine I was part of is still attacking all abortionists as 'murderers.' And today once again the 'pro-life' leaders are busy ducking their personal responsibility for people acting on their words. The people who stir up the fringe never take responsibility. But I'd like to say on this day after a man was murdered in cold blood for preforming abortions that I -- and the people I worked with in the religious right, the Republican Party, the pro-life movement and the Roman Catholic Church, all contributed to this killing by our foolish and incendiary words.

I am very sorry."

But the home run, knock-out punch for the Hillary/Ferraro ticket came last from from Keith O. who so took Hillary to task that I hope she cried (assuming her power hunger allows her to cry... for real).

See this is the type of racism that the Hillary's and the Ferraro's of the world perpetuate.

Excellent article in the NY times. Hard to pick which part to snip so be sure to read the entire thing

Just What the Founders Feared: An Imperial President Goes to War - New York Times:

"The nation is heading toward a constitutional showdown over the Iraq war. Congress is moving closer to passing a bill to limit or end the war, but President Bush insists Congress doesn’t have the power to do it. “I don’t think Congress ought to be running the war,” he said at a recent press conference. “I think they ought to be funding the troops.” He added magnanimously: “I’m certainly interested in their opinion.”
.......
Given how intent the president is on expanding his authority, it is startling to recall how the Constitution’s framers viewed presidential power. They were revolutionaries who detested kings, and their great concern when they established the United States was that they not accidentally create a kingdom.
......
John Jay, the first chief justice of the United States, noted in Federalist No. 4 that “absolute monarchs will often make war when their nations are to get nothing by it, but for the purposes and objects merely personal.”

Religious group praises Edwards' response to gay marriage question - AMERICAblog: A great nation deserves the truth

"I'm Rev. Reggie Longcrier, I'm the Pastor of Exodus Missionary Outreach Church in Hickory, North Carolina. Senator Edwards says his opposition to gay marriage is influenced by his Southern Baptist background. Most Americans agree it was wrong and unconstitutional to use religion to justify slavery and segregation and deny women the right to vote. So, why is it still acceptable to use religion to deny gay Americans their full and equal rights?"

"In answering Rev. Longcrier's question, Senator Edwards made an important commitment to not allow his personal religious beliefs to restrict the rights of any American," added Rev. Creech. "We congratulate him and encourage all leaders and candidates to give serious consideration to this issue and how they will represent the interests of this nation."

"Millions of gay Americans struggle every-day against the misuse of religion to perpetuate prejudice and inequality," said Creech. "These individuals don't just fight bigotry when they're denied the right to marry their partners, they combat it on the street, in the workplace, in their children's schools, and in every other aspect of their lives. Religion-based prejudices pervade and profoundly shape the daily experiences of these people and I'd like to commend my friend Rev. Longcrier for furthering the national dialogue for those and all Americas on this critically important subject."

You Can't Cherry-Pick Life

"On the Sunday Morning Interview Show of Broken-Record on Fox, Dr. Rice spoke a paragraph, which if it had been included in a remedial history paper at the weakest high school in the nation, would've gotten the writer an "F" - maybe an expulsion."

Olbermann Takes On … Everything, MSNBC News Anchor Is Ruffling Conservative Feathers:
'Countdown' was flying beneath the ratings radar for several years until last August when a speech by former Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld sent Olbermann into a fury.

'He said, essentially, that anyone who was critical of the war on terror, or the war in Iraq, or, indeed, of the administration's policies, was equivalent to those who appeased Hitler in the '30s,' he said. 'I'm not a big fan of being called a Nazi appeaser, or even a parallel to a Nazi appeaser. I took that personally.'"

Look, I'm down with the talk of 'Barkley as Governor of Alabama' as a novelty. He's great for a quote and is fun to watch on TV. But, come-on, if he gets elected (a black man elected Governor of Alabama? "When asked about the war in Iraq, Barkley replied that the situation was simple, 'It's an easy call for me. We've got to get out of Iraq. [Saddam Hussein] is dead. That situation hasn't gotten better. So, anything that the Republicans say about the war in Iraq -- it's just bogus. I mean, it's a terrible situation. Chimps make wood spears, kill smaller animals for food / Females described as problem-solvers in primate culture:

"Chimpanzees living in the West African savannah have been observed fashioning spears from sticks and using the handcrafted tools to hunt small mammals -- the first routine production of deadly weapons ever seen in nonhuman animals.

The multistep spearmaking practice, documented by researchers in Senegal who spent years gaining the chimpanzees' trust, adds credence to the idea that human forebears fashioned similar tools millions of years ago.

The landmark observation also supports the long-debated proposition that females -- the main makers and users of spears among the Senegalese chimps -- tend to be the innovators and creative problem-solvers in primate culture."

6 Bullets and an Alabama Ass Whuppin

OK, we've had about a week to soak in the glory of the Alabama Ass Whuppin' dispensed by the Dems on the Rethugs. Some might say the the Republicans.... oh, why try to put it in words when a cartoon says it so well:

Best. Cartoon. Ever.

BUT, unfortunately we can't hold an election for our teevee and radio news fools who still aren't doing their jobs worth a fuck. No way to kick them out of their jobs. So, we alternative news consumers will have to continue pulling the curtain away from their song and dance.

A big fallacy being pushed now is that all these Democrats are actually conservatives. Imagine! A loss not being a loss for these guys. Nevermind the fact that the 3 months before Nov. 7 these 'conservative' Democrats were being painted by the Rethugs as the most liberal of the liberal who would be allowing gay abortions in the streets all the while taxing you into oblivion.

Daily Kos: We're All Conservatives Now:
"I woke up Wednesday morning and found out I was a conservative. See, a whole slew of candidates I supported were elected - enough to form a majority that will work to pass legislation of which I wholeheartedly approve - and I discovered from pundits that this is evidence of how conservative America really is. Since the outcome is precisely what I hoped for, I must be a 'conservative Democrat' too.

They've been beating the drums for 72 hours now - 'conservative Democrats, conservative Democrats, conservative Democrats.' Both Hunter and Markos tried to set the punditocracy straight, but I suspect this probably does as much good as spitting in the wind. So I'm ready to go all contrarian and Zen on right-wing blowhards and embrace the label."

Another fallacy is this expectation that the Dems have to be nice and bipartisan now that we are in control. Huh? Fuck that, I want partisanship out the wazoo and I want these fuckers to be held accountable. None of this "what's in the past is past" bullshit. Hey, I'm not saying we should spend all our time and energy prosecuting these fools. We've got a lot of work that needs to be done for the greater good of this country. But, we can certainly do more than two things at once and one of those things should be hearings, supeonas and jail time. If you don't hold 'em accountable then it sets a presedence that it is acceptable. Tis not and punishment are due.

Bring it home, Molly:

Creators.com - Creators Syndicate:
"AUSTIN, Texas -- The sheer pleasure of getting lessons in etiquette from Karl Rove and the right-wing media passeth all understanding. Ever since 1994, the Republican Party has gone after Democrats with the frenzy of a foaming mad dog. There was the impeachment of Bill Clinton, not to mention the trashing of both Clinton and his wife -- accused of everything from selling drugs to murder -- all orchestrated by that paragon of manners, Tom DeLay.

Media Matters collected some gems of fairness. For instance, Monica Crowley with MSNBC, in the wake of John Kerry's botched program, astutely observed 'how lucky we are that he was not elected president. ... The Republicans remain the grown-ups, the responsible ones on national security.'

How many dead Americans has this grown-up war resulted in? "

And can we stop with the masturbatory drooning that Karl Rove is some sort of genius?

The Architect's Faulty Specs:
How did the man they call Bush's brain get it so wrong?

Rove's miscalculations began well before election night. The polls and pundits pointed to a Democratic sweep, but Rove dismissed them all. In public, he predicted outright victory, flashing the V sign to reporters flying on Air Force One. He wasn't just trying to psych out the media and the opposition. He believed his 'metrics' were far superior to plain old polls. Two weeks before the elections, Rove showed NEWSWEEK his magic numbers: a series of graphs and bar charts that tallied early voting and voter outreach. Both were running far higher than in 2004. In fact, Rove thought the polls were obsolete because they relied on home telephones in an age of do-not-call lists and cell phones. Based on his models, he forecast a loss of 12 to 14 seats in the House—enough to hang on to the majority. Rove placed so much faith in his figures that, after the elections, he planned to convene a panel of Republi-can political scientists—to study just how wrong the polls were."

But there is some good in the media. Maybe a model of what journalism can turn back to as this article implys:

Olbermann taps a well of discontent as the anti-O'Reilly:
"And just like that, Olbermann found his voice -- the angry everyman. He became a liberal counterpoint to conservative media ranters like O'Reilly and Rush Limbaugh, and an Internet star, too.

The result has been a cultural earthquake."

Internets 3.0:

Entrepreneurs See a Web Guided by Common Sense:
Referred to as Web 3.0, the effort is in its infancy, and the very idea has given rise to skeptics who have called it an unobtainable vision. But the underlying technologies are rapidly gaining adherents, at big companies like I.B.M. and Google as well as small ones. Their projects often center on simple, practical uses, from producing vacation recommendations to predicting the next hit song."

Six times? Jeebus. Talk about 'hell hath no fury'. Just wait until she gets out of hospital.

Brazilian woman survives 6 shots to head:
"SAO PAULO, Brazil - A woman was released from the hospital a day after she was shot in the head six times in an attack police blamed on her ex-husband, Brazilian media reported Saturday.

Patricia Goncalves Pereira, a 21-year-old housewife, was shot Friday after an altercation with her ex-husband, who was upset because she refused to get back together with him, Globo TV reported.

'I know this was a miracle,' Pereira told the TV network. 'Now I just want to extract the bullets and live my life.'

But that's ok. Doesn't matter. George Bush and friends are actually posting nuke instructions on the web.... Seriously. Iraqi nuclear research pulled off Web / Experts call archive posted by U.S. a dangerous cookbook
"Last March, the federal government set up a Web site to make public a vast archive of Iraqi documents captured during the war.

The Bush administration did so under pressure from congressional Republicans who said they hoped to 'leverage the Internet' to find new evidence of the prewar dangers posed by Saddam Hussein.

But in recent weeks, the site has posted some documents that weapons experts say present a danger themselves: detailed accounts of Iraq's secret nuclear research before the 1991 Persian Gulf War. The documents, the experts say, constitute a basic guide to building an atom bomb.

Experts "shocked".

Feeling safer? Gosh I know I am. Those Republican sure keep me sleepin' well at night. They do some mighty fine protectin', don't they?

But hey, atleast they know how to sink as low as possible in order to hold onto power:

How Republicans poisoned politics:
"The other familiar excuse for negative advertising is that 'everybody does it.' Newspaper stories about attack commercials usually include a sampling of harsh Democratic spots in an effort to appear evenhanded. But there's really no comparison between what the two parties and their respective surrogates are doing. According to factcheck.org, a respected site that reviews the accuracy of various ads, 'the National Republican Campaign Committee's work stands out this year for the sheer volume of assaults on the personal character of Democratic House challengers.' Negative Democratic ads tie Republican candidates to President Bush, and to the Iraq war, or accuse them of being in the tank for the oil or pharmaceutical industries. But Democratic ads do not charge that their opponents 'prey on our children'—even though one recently resigned following accusations that he did precisely that. One can only imagine the ads Republicans would have made this year if Mark Foley had happened to be a Democrat."

But I saved the best for last. If your a hypocritical evangelical clap your hands. *sonic boom*

This one goes out to all you evangelicals who have had yet another one of your leaders fall prey to the evil homosexual agenda.

METH AND MAN ASS

Cause, you know, those homos are all about convincing others to snort some Meth and then call up some male hookers for a 'massage' orgy.

METH AND MAN ASS

Yeah, it could never have anything to do with an evangelical actually being gay but who has had to repress his true being due to one tiny passage in a book written by men (though it is believed to be the word of god. Damn, you evangs need to look for the man behind the curtain every once and a while) The perpetual scowl from you sex deprived, sex terrified, sex terrorized, sex terrorist, sex hatin', hypocrites, has caused a lie of a life.

METH AND MAN ASS

So without any further ado, the next smash hit that all the kids will be dancing to..... I give you:

That's right. Meth and Man ass. Get you some.

A coworker turned me onto this site last Friday and she's ordering one of their videos that I get to borrow. I'd love to take a vacation with them. Here's an article and below is a link to the website:

A Guide to the Worst Places on Earth - Newsweek Entertainment - MSNBC.com: "Vice
Magazine and under the creative direction of video and now film's Spike Jonze (Fatboy Slim's 'Weapon of Choice,' 'Being John Malkovich,' 'Adaptation'), forgoes the gated resorts of Jamaica and spas of New Mexico to run with illegal-arms dealers in Pakistan, converse with dirty-bomb dealers in Bulgaria and shoot wild, radioactive boar in Chernobyl. In one segment, a Vice reporter goes to Paraguay to visit the failed Nazi commune of Nueva Germania and finds its last two inhabitants living in squalor. He interviews locals who remember Dr. Josef Mengele, dubbed 'The Angel of Death' during World War II because of his horrific surgical experiments on Auschwitz prisoners. The villagers recall that during his last days, he ate out of tin cans and spent each night screaming in his sleep."

BoobTube

I was going to make today a YouTube day in celebration of YouTube's recent corporate whoredom. (Google is quickly becoming the Walmart of tech companies. Can't figure out why those guys have gone all neocon of late. Seem to be hitching their wagon to some ponies heading off a cliff). But, I came across this email from one of our fightin' men in Iraq and I wanted to share it with you. It is enlightening, funny, scary and sad. It puts a real face on this forgotten war that's getting uglier and uglier every day.

Marine For Life - Email from Iraq:
"Best Chuck Norris Moment - 13 May. Bad Guys arrived at the government center in the small town of Kubaysah to kidnap the town mayor, since they have a problem with any form of government that does not include regular beheadings and women wearing burqahs. There were seven of them. As they brought the mayor out to put him in a pick-up truck to take him off to be beheaded (on video, as usual), one of the bad Guys put down his machinegun so that he could tie the mayor's hands. The mayor took the opportunity to pick up the machinegun and drill five of the Bad Guys. The other two ran away. One of the dead Bad Guys was on our top twenty wanted list. Like they say, you can't fight City Hall."
Hell you can't fight 'em if they take your gun away, now can you? Sounds like a good issue for the NRA to take up.

Here are two, stellar, special comments from Keith Olbermann. If you are not watching him... why are you not watching him?

Olbermann's Special Comments:
"The traditional media has been slow to come to grips with the American public's distrust and dislike of President Bush -- sentiments clearly reflected in opinion polls dating back well over a year.

Almost alone among the network newscasters, MSNBC's Keith Olbermann is channeling that sensibility. Channeling it -- and amplifying it."
Count Down - Special Comment - Bush Lies (Quicktime)

But the premise of a President who comes across as a compulsive liar — is nothing less than terrifying.

A President who since 9/11 will not listen, is not listening — and thanks to Bob Woodward's most recent account — evidently has never listened.

A President who since 9/11 so hates or fears other Americans, that he accuses them of advocating deliberate inaction in the face of the enemy.

A President who since 9/11 has savaged the very freedoms he claims to be protecting from attack. Attack by terrorists, or by Democrats, or by both — it is now impossible to find a consistent thread of logic as to who Mr. Bush believes the enemy is.

Speaking of 9/11 here is Keith's special comment on that day. So powerful.

Start watching Keith. He along with Jon Stewart and Colbert are the only worthy news sources on television. And 2 out of the 3 are "fake" news programs. Says a lot doesn't it?
