Letter to the Editor - Southern Style

TimesDaily.com:

Dangerous liberals?
To the editor:

Mr. Shiflett's letter to the editor (March 27) thoroughly castigated those who happen to disagree with his own political views on issues such as wire tapping, the war in Iraq, gun control, etc.

He puts all such persons in the category of liberalism, calling it a threat to freedom. It is unfortunate he feels his freedom threatened by those who want to have the president obey the law, get our troops out of the mess they are in and remove some of the weapons from the hands of the public.

Evidently (by his definition), I am a liberal, but I don't consider my views dangerous to anyone's freedom. True, I don't want my phone tapped at the whim of the president. True, when I see one of those stickers that says 'Support our troops,' I want to respond with 'Yes, support them -- bring them home!' True, I am perfectly willing to give up my 'right' to have a gun in return for saving some lives. And yes, I even object to the inhumane treatment of political prisoners, no matter what they have done. After all, aren't we supposed to be more compassionate than 'the other side?'

I even believe in the separation of church and state. Somehow, I thought that was one of the principles on which our country was founded.

So, if this brands me as a liberal, then I shall wear the brand proudly. But I'm still scratching my head wondering how my views are dangerous to anyone's freedom. I rather think that the danger lies in those who cannot tolerate views that are different from their own.

uhhhhhmmm, what? And it's "you're" not "your". If "you're" going to flame then be sure to use correct grammar.
