Myspace.com Blogs - STOLEN GUITAR AT LUCERO SHOW! - BOTTLETREE MySpace Blog

The other night at the Lucero show we were greeted to the awesome surprise that someone had stolen one of Glossary's (the opening band) guitars. At first I was positive it was simply misplaced. We've never had anything stolen from our backstage. We have a clearly separated area for the bands with 3 signs marking to not come back there unless you are in the band, in their crew, or are part of our staff as well as security guards who patrol the club and our grounds. Mostly though, we don't have to worry about this stuff because our patrons are decent, cool, respectable people who would never dream of stealing something from the club. In fact much of our clientele are musicians who would
not at all take kindly to some nefarious deeds.

So anyway, the incident occurred at load out, and the guitar player in Glossary discovered his guitar (a left-handed Epiphone--not easily replaced) had been taken out of its case and taken. At first, I was sure this was either a practical joke by Lucero, the headlining band, or just a mere mistake. After searching the club at 2:30 AM for a solid half hour it was all too aware the guitar was indeed stolen. Right, so now near 3:00 AM after a 14 hour work day, the management on hand and myself had to stay and to review 3 ½ hours of security camera footage, one camera at a time. Exactly what anyone would want to do at the end of a long day working at a club. It took some time to find, but, yes, there it was: a drunken moron taking the guitar out of the case, walking out the back door with the guitar, and walking back in without it. Astonishing. What kind of low-level life form would take something from a small touring band trying just to make ends meet and pay $4 gas prices on the road? Only absolute scum with no regard for people's private property would even contemplate such a thing.

Remembering the '60s | TimesDaily.com | Times Daily | Florence, AL:

"When Cooper came to the Shoals in 1972 to work at the Florence Times/Tri-Cities Daily, he began covering local music and saw a different side of race relations.

'In the Shoals, there wasn't much racial prejudice,' Cooper said, referring to the area itself and especially the music industry.

He marveled at the fact that while racial tensions were high in Birmingham and Decatur, in the Shoals, Rick Hall was using white musicians to cut songs for black artists.

'It was the antithesis of what you'd find in Birmingham,' he said."

Burnt Hendrix guitar to be sold in London - Yahoo! News:

"LONDON (Reuters) - One of Jimi Hendrix's favorite guitars, set alight on a London stage more than 40 years ago and thought to have been lost forever, is to be auctioned later this year.

The guitar, a 1965 Fender Stratocaster, was famously doused with lighter fuel and set alight by the rock legend during a one-off performance at London's Finsbury Astoria in March 1967.

Hendrix had to be rushed to hospital with minor burns to his hands after the stunt, and the guitar, slightly damaged along the neck and pickboard, was recovered by his staff."

News on Yahoo! Music:

"Death Row Records, the hip-hop label that released seminal gangster rap albums by Tupac Shakur, Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg, has been auctioned for $24 million.

The New York-based Global Music Group Inc. said in a statement to The Associated Press on Monday that on June 24 it purchased Death Row, including its enviable back catalog and current artist contracts.

The purchase concluded the roller-coaster saga of one of hip-hop's most famous labels. Under owner Marion 'Suge' Knight, Death Row sold tens of millions of albums in the heyday of early `90s rap — its artists often flashing the spoils of the high life in music videos — before collapsing in debt and mismanagement."

All three bands at the Slobberbone show killed.
But Slobberbone somehow managed to out-kill them all.

Did you hear the story of how Glossary got that guitar back? It is most awesome! Make sure Todd Beene tells you.

Jitter, I can't wait to get my hands on the vid and/or recording from that show.

DBT, the MySpace blog I linked to has the full details of the return of the stolen guitar. It is, indeed, most awesome.

I have been on a huge Slobberbone kick for the last 2 weeks. I think it started after Brent opened with Pinball Song when they came through town recently. I had no idea that there was a reunion. Any word if it was recorded? Also, Gimme Back my Dog has been especially relevant recently as my beloved dog Townes, who I battled for in the divorce, is dying. Oh, happy days! Hope all is well.

Sorry to hear about your dog, man. :(
