Redneck GReece is set to release a new song just in time for Christmas 2008.
The song "Santa and the Trucker" will be released as a CD single and proceeds will benefit the Jack R. Wells Boys and Girls Club in Athens, GA.
"Santa and the Trucker" is a wholesome children-friendly song (in spite of Rick and Redneck) that should entertain both kids and adults alike.
The recording is taking place at Rick Fowler's studio in Athens, GA and is being produced by Redneck and Rick Fowler.
The musicians on the song are among the finest Athens has to offer, Drive By Truckers' Patterson Hood (voice of Santa) and John Neff (pedal steel guitar), Randall Bramblett (piano), Widespread Panic's Domingo S. Ortiz (percussion), Rick Fowler (lead guitar), Tom Ryan (bass guitar), and introducing Redneck's son Glenn Reece on drums.
The official release date will be December 6, 2008 which will coincide with the annual benefit concert held a Locos restaurant in Athens with Redneck GReece performing.

Man, Isbell's new song Seven Mile Island as gotten all up in me. Love the hand claps and Isbell's voice in this one.
Seven Mile Island was/is were us Buttholeville young'uns would go to do a little something called muddin' or mud riding. My granddaddy use to ride horses there.

Television - On ‘Spectacle,’ Elvis Costello Goes From Singer-Songwriter to Interviewer - NYTimes.com:
"The result is “Spectacle: Elvis Costello With ...,” an hourlong show set to debut on the Sundance Channel on Wednesday. It is a mix of music and talk and music-oriented talk, with Mr. Costello, 54, serving as host and musical director; he also performs for — or with — all his guests.
Stylistically it is a blend of “The Dick Cavett Show,” “Inside the Actors Studio” and “Charlie Rose,” with singers like Tony Bennett, Lou Reed, Rufus Wainwright and Smokey Robinson discussing their history and influences at length. (Mr. John is the guest on the premiere episode.)"

Give me AC/DC, Tom Waits. They didn't sell out:
"Selling out can be defined as any action that puts money and celebrity as a priority over art and paying respect to one's loyal following. There are shades of gray, and mitigating circumstances. I think, for instance, we can all agree on the Willie Nelson Rule: Any artist who once owed more than $10 million in back taxes and helped start Farm Aid can be forgiven for a Taco Bell commercial and a couple of Christmas albums."

Mojo ranked the Vampire Weekend album higher than BTCD? Please. I reviewed that Vampire Weekend album and drive around with it in my car. There's 3 great songs on it, and the rest are either just okay or plain fucking unlistenable. Rich kid debut album. Good luck with the sophomore jinx.
Haven't heard it yet, Jez. But with your review I think I'll just stick to checking out the songs on their MySpace.
Oh, and I got a good beer post coming next week.
You mean you have a post about a good beer, or the post is good, but the beer is Meh?
Good post about great beer. I've had some of the fossil fuel, man. Unbelievable.
