Keepin' it Real.

The Big Dog chewed some FAUX News ass this weekend. But first, the incredible GOOD that President (a real one, I might add) Clinton is doing in the word.

Clinton raises billions for world issues:
"NEW YORK - A conference hosted by Bill Clinton on world problems ended Friday with the former president announcing a total of $7.3 billion in pledges to help reduce global warming and fight Third World poverty, disease and ethnic strife."
On to the show. Just read the inetire transcript then watch the first 20 minutes of the interview. Here are some snippets;

Clinton Takes On Fox News:

"CLINTON: OK, let’s talk about it. I will answer all of those things on the merits but I want to talk about the context of which this arises. I’m being asked this on the FOX network…ABC just had a right wing conservative on the Path to 9/11 falsely claim that it was based on the 9/11 Commission report with three things asserted against me that are directly contradicted by the 9/11 Commission report. I think it’s very interesting that all the conservative Republicans who now say that I didn’t do enough, claimed that I was obsessed with Bin Laden. All of President Bush’s neocons claimed that I was too obsessed with finding Bin Laden when they didn’t have a single meeting about Bin Laden for the nine months after I left office. All the right wingers who now say that I didn’t do enough said that I did too much. Same people."
Here's some backing quotes for Clinton's bolded assertion above:
"You can support the troops but not the president."
---Rep Tom Delay (R-TX),

"Well, I just think it's a bad idea. What's going to happen is they're going to be over there for 10, 15, maybe 20 years."
---Joe Scarborough (R-FL),

"[The] President . . . is once again releasing American military might on a foreign country with an ill-defined objective and no exit strategy. He has yet to tell the Congress how much this operation will cost. And he has not informed our nation's armed forces about how long they will be away from home. These strikes do not make for a sound foreign policy."
---Sen Rick Santorum (R-PA).

Victory means exit strategy, and it's important for the President to explain to us what the exit strategy is."
-Governor George W Bush (R-TX)

Back to the spanking:
"CLINTON: But at least I tried. That’s the difference in me and some, including all the right wingers who are attacking me now. They ridiculed me for trying. They had eight months to try and they didn’t…I tried. So I tried and failed. When I failed I left a comprehensive anti-terror strategy and the best guy in the country, Dick Clarke… So you did FOX’s bidding on this show. You did you nice little conservative hit job on me. But what I want to know.."
.....

"CLINTON: What did I do? I worked hard to try and kill him. I authorized a finding for the CIA to kill him. We contracted with people to kill him. I got closer to killing him than anybody has gotten since. And if I were still president we’d have more than 20,000 troops there trying to kill him. Now I never criticized President Bush and I don’t think this is useful. But you know we do have a government that thinks Afghanistan is 1/7 as important as Iraq. And you ask me about terror and Al Qaeda with that sort of dismissive theme when all you have to do is read Richard Clarke’s book to look at what we did in a comprehensive systematic way to try to protect the country against terror. And you’ve got that little smirk on your face. It looks like you’re so clever…"
And the only time I'll ever ask you to watch anything on FAUX News. Click here for the video.

Of course, you knew FAUX News was going to clippy-clippy the interview to portray Clinton in the worst light possible and to push their neocon agenda of blaming EVERYTHING on Clinton:

"Nice Little Conservative Hit Job": And Also, Nice Little Conservative Clip Job

_________

Then we have this:

Spy Agencies Say Iraq War Hurting U.S. Terror Fight:
"The war in Iraq has become a primary recruitment vehicle for violent Islamic extremists, motivating a new generation of potential terrorists around the world whose numbers may be increasing faster than the United States and its allies can reduce the threat, U.S. intelligence analysts have concluded."
And add a bit of this:

Retired officers slam Rumsfeld handling of Iraq war - Sep 25, 2006:

"WASHINGTON (AP) -- Retired military officers on Monday bluntly accused Defense Secretary Donald H. Rumsfeld of bungling the war in Iraq, saying U.S. troops were sent to fight without the best equipment and that critical facts were hidden from the public.

'I believe that Secretary Rumsfeld and others in the administration did not tell the American people the truth for fear of losing support for the war in Iraq,' retired Maj. Gen. John R. S. Batiste said in remarks prepared for a hearing by the Senate Democratic Policy Committee."

And you've got complete failure by the Republican Party. Complete.... utter.... incompetence.

Bill Clinton is not someone I would vote for, but is someone I would like to have as a friend, someone I would love to hang and talk with. His politics are too conservative for me, but he does seem to be in many ways part of my "tribe", sharing lots of aspects of my world view, not concerned as much with limiting sexual and worldwide freedoms, being smart and wonderfully fast on his feet intellectually and verbally (the utter oopposite of you-know-who). I think that is one of the reasons they hate him so much. Although similar in age, he is a different generation intellectually and socially from Dubya and his cohorts. They fear folks like me and they fear Clinton. As always, I do wish people would focus on the immorality of this war more than its inefficiency. That is what will maybe prevent future wars like this. The point is to make sure they don't happen, not that they happen more skillfully.
