Dr Queen

Light blogging the next two days as I finish up my two week vacation.

Here' some music news:

Queen star finishes PhD thesis after 30 years :

"LONDON (AFP) - After more than 30 years which he spent as a member of one of the world's most successful bands, Queen guitarist Brian May has finally finished his PhD thesis which he began as a student in the 1970s, The Times reported on Thursday.

May, 59, earned a degree in physics at Imperial College London but after years of studying interplanetary dust, he abandoned work towards his doctorate when Queen took off."

'Taleban-like beard' sees Metallica frontman detained at airport:

"James Hetfield, frontman of US metal rockers Metallica, was detained at a British Airport before his appearance at London's Live Earth gig on Saturday.

According to British newspaper The Times, the rocker jetted into Luton airport ahead of Saturday's Live Earth concert at Wembley Stadium - where his legendary rock band was due to perform - but was halted by officials before he could leave the terminal.

The legendary frontman was then subjected to a brief line of questioning, after which security-conscious officials were left red-faced when Hetfield explained he was a member of a world-famous rock band.

The Times claims Hetfield's friends blame his 'Taleban-like beard' for the interrogation."

Hey-

Old 97's and the Drams were excellent as expected. Beautiful night in KC, mid 70's and clear skies. The show was outside in the Crossroads district which is a revitalized area of atists, lofts, bars etc. 5 years ago you would have been knifed and/or arrested in the area that is now the stage! Was able to talk with Chad both before and after the show. Super nice guy. They even broke out two or three Slobberbone songs. My man crush has officially been moved from you to Rhett Miller. The guy just has that "It". They smoked from start to finish. I would guess between 25-28 songs, no breaks. Highly entertaining...

Sounds like a mighty fine time, Townser. Wish I could have been there. Damn! 25-28 songs straight.
