But here we are.... months after the surge with no improvement... Not that it was designed to create improvement.... not that any-damn-thing we do will improve the situation over there... many more U.S. soldiers dead for the vanity of some old, white men in Washington who have no problem sending other peoples kids to their deaths.
.... and nobody seems to give a shit.
Surge fails to bring needed reconciliation to Iraq:
"As the Bush administration prepares to present its version of 'progress' associated with the president's troop surge that began seven months ago, independent assessments show the surge has failed to catalyze political developments necessary for the country's future. The Los Angeles Times reports that Iraq's parliament has passed none of the major legislation Washington had expected it to approve. The 28,500 additional troops who have filed into the country since February also have failed to substantially decrease civilian deaths in Iraq, and more Iraqis are fleeing their homes now than before the surge began. The best possible summation of the surge's results indicate it has created a 'holding pattern' in the country, which is wholly dependent on US troops to maintain what few decreases in violence have been observed."

So what is CheneyCo planning to do now?
Double down, bitches.
War with Iran: Coming from the traditional media and conservative 'think-tanks' (which is as oxy-moron as it gets) to a town near you in mere days.
We haven't even attempted any diplomatic talks with Iran.

TPMmuckraker September 4, 2007 2:45 PM:
"Barnett Rubin is the last person to set off wild speculation about war with Iran: the longtime Afghanistan expert is wonky, moderate and thoroughly analytical. But that's exactly what happened on Wednesday, when Rubin blogged that an anonymous, plugged-in friend told him that Dick Cheney's office had issued 'instructions' to conservative think tanks like the American Enterprise Institute to start a drumbeat for attacking Iran. In order to determine precisely what he's alleging, and get a sense of its credibility, I spoke with Rubin, a senior fellow at NYU's Center on International Cooperation this morning. Cheney's likely motivation for issuing such instructions to his think-tank allies would be to win an inter-administration battle over the future of Iran policy. Cheney, an advocate of confronting the Iranians militarily, faces opposition from the Joint Chiefs of Staff, where the primary concern is preventing an open-ended Iraq commitment from decimating military preparedness for additional crises. A new war is the last thing the chiefs want, and on this, they're backed by Defense Secretary Bob Gates. 'It may be that the president hasn't decided yet,' says Rubin."

It's bad when freakin' nuns are speaking out to have your ass impeached.
Nuns. F'ing traitorous wives of god.
Nuns. F'ing traitorous wives of god.
Religion Briefs Coalition of nuns calls for impeaching Bush and Cheney:
"A progressive group of U.S. nuns has called on Congress to impeach President Bush and Vice President Cheney because of their roles in the war in Iraq. “The National Coalition of American Nuns is impelled by conscience to call you to act promptly to impeach President George W. Bush and Vice President Dick Cheney for ... high crimes and misdemeanors,” the group wrote in a letter written on behalf of its board members. The letter says that impeachment is warranted for their “deceiving the public under the false pretense that Iraq possessed weapons of mass destruction” and “destroying” the reputation of the United States and the good will of other nations."

He knows it 'Google' not 'the Googles' because he sits on their freakin' board.
Oh how ye pine for the days when intelligence is coveted.

Gore confirms VP is part of executive branch.:
"You were often referred to as the most powerful vice president. GORE: That was before Dick Cheney. Point taken. Cheney has made the argument that the vice presidency is not part of the executive branch. Is he right?
GORE: (Laughs) Of course the vice presidency is part of the executive branch! But I fear that I’m losing my objectivity where President Bush and Cheney are concerned. Not much surprises me anymore. I have a lot of friends who share the following problem with me: Our sense of outrage is so saturated that when a new outrage occurs, we have to download some existing outrage into an external hard drive in order to make room for a new outrage."

Goracle.
Loss of Arctic ice leaves experts stunned:
"The Arctic ice cap has collapsed at an unprecedented rate this summer and levels of sea ice in the region now stand at record lows, scientists have announced. Experts say they are 'stunned' by the loss of ice, with an area almost twice as big as the UK disappearing in the last week alone. So much ice has melted this summer that the Northwest passage across the top of Canada is fully navigable, and observers say the Northeast passage along Russia's Arctic coast could open later this month. If the increased rate of melting continues, the summertime Arctic could be totally free of ice by 2030."

I was going to start out with this bit of news first but the outrage had to be addressed first.
Halle said that I could break this news first on AAW but she had to go on Access Hollywood and deny me my props.
Yes, Halle Berry is pregnant and yes.... I am the father.
BOO-YAH!

Hey JPW.
Thought I'd better get up with the play in the comments stakes. A DBT tour to NZ? Fuck yeah! You guys would love it. Plenty of room. I'll even drive the bus!
S'funny. I said to my lady just the other day. "I bet you 20 bucks that by this time next year the US invades Iran." Why? Its all in the angles. Fox, being the propoganda mouthpiece it is has started doing stories on 'the resistance' in Iran. How the 'real people' hate the government and want change. How the 'real people' have an underground that wears jeans and talks to woman with respect. They want democracy for Dog's sake! By Christmas Fox will be saying: "We're just the people to bring it to 'em." It has a real spooky feeling of deja vu like the lead-up to the invasion of Iraq.
An oppressed people crying out for democracy, crazy jihadists, WMD, a lunatic leader (the best I've seen yet was when 'ol Ollie North said that Ahmadinejad had bad breath!), threats to the world oil supply etc etc. Angles.
Down in this part of the world when Fox goes to an ad break in the States we get "News that you might find interesting". Little fluff stories about a woman in Virginia who collects pens or talking real-estate signs in Montana. Over the past few weeks these have started to become stories about the 'real' people of Iran and their oppression by the regime, US troops maimed by terrorists in Iraq while fighting for freedom. Darker, and again, angles. Setting us up to OK an invasion of Iran because 'they deserve it'.
Bush is down in Aussie at the moment with his good mate John Howard saying that the world should embrace nuclear energy to combat global warming (because he really takes it seriously. True. For real life.) If the world embraces nuclear energy who says what happens with the by-products (plutonium)? Who says who can have reactors and who can't? Who wants to administrate the world's energy supply? Pretty fucking transparent really.
Our government has basically told them to get fucked. We don't allow any nuclear powered ships into NZ or have any nuclear aspirations. Meaning the 'Free Trade Agreement' we've been trying to get with the US will never happen. But so be it.
Personally, I have some sympathy for the nuclear energy solution. But I'll go with the majority on this one.
Anyway, enough blah. Mate, yours and other blogs like it are firmly restoring my faith in the American people (and at the same time keeping me up to date on the mighty DBT). Cheers.
I'll see Patterson this Monday and I'll tell him we've got the infrastructure in place for an NZ tour. I'll come along as a good will ambassador!
Yeah, its the same old drum beat with Iran. Luckily our 'new' press, the blogosphere, (the only functioning press we have in the states) has been pointing to the Iran invasion for quite a while. There will be much resistance.
Ollie North.. another Republican criminal elevated to hero status by the nut jobs on the right.
Bless ya for watching Fox. I've shunned all TV media. I get my news from the nets and the blogs.
Propaganda at its worst.
Did you hear about Bush's trainwreck of a speech last night in Aussie land? Called APEC OPEC and a few other gaffes. Such an embarrassment. I say we don't let him come back. Aus. can keep him.
Wind, solar and wave energy is where the focus should be. Just think if the U.S. had invest the half a trillion we've spent in Iraq on alternative fuels. The technology is there, they just need the investment.
Man, ABAT I thankee for the compliment. I'm a small cog but proud to be a part of the online movement to take back our democracy.
I'll have some Patterson Hood pics up later next week.
