DBT Week in Review - 8/8/08

DBT!

Axe Victim - London Review

It's been some four years since DBT last graced a London stage. I missed them back then, but last night at the Electric Ballroom I was practically on stage with the band the view was so good from my vantage point, stage left, positioned at the top of a set of stairs that were at the same height as the stage. And they owned the room that was packed to the rafters with the 600 or so faithful followers who had come to witness one of the hardest working rock bands give a rock show of the highest order. And for a mere £16.00 they delivered a near perfect two hour set that trawled the very best from the band's exemplary back catalogue of seven studio albums including two double albums worth of material.

Music

Belly Up to Simon's and Sweet Six Bullets : Music : Anderson Independent-Mail:

"The band draws comparisons to the Drive-By Truckers, both in their music and lyrics, so it’s no surprise the band covers several Truckers songs to help fill in their sets. Cook said Truckers covers like “Lookout Mountain” and “Where the Devil Don’t Stay” come across well, but the band isn’t afraid to journey into pure country songs like “Midnight in Montgomery” by Alan Jackson."

The Big Picture | Cheap Concert Tickets!:

"I spoke recently with several music industry 'Insiders' about this -- they all said the same thing: Touring is terrible this year. They blamed high gas prices, a weak economy and poor job market. The combination does not lead to a LETS PARTY mentality amongst ticket buyers."

Iggy Pop's Gear Stolen From Gig:

"DETROIT — A rental truck containing Iggy Pop and the Stooges' equipment was stolen after a concert in Montreal.

Stooges road manager Eric Fischer says the 15-foot truck stolen Monday contained all the group's instruments and stage gear. He tells the Detroit Free Press the lost items are worth tens of thousands of dollars."
