Letter to the Editor - Southern Style

TimesDaily.com:

Think for yourself
To the editor:

I am tired of supporters of the Bush administration who don't have a clue about what actually takes place in our government. Ambrose Underwood, whose letter was recently published, falls into this category.

Mr. Underwood, wake up. Your rights are being eliminated by this administration. This should be of major concern to any American, whether you have anything to hide or not.

We don't 'hate' Bush, Mr. Underwood. We are American citizens who keep abreast of our government. Our government is accountable for its actions and, as Abraham Lincoln said, '… of the people, by the people and for the people,' not the other way around, as this administration would have you believe.

As supporters of the Constitution, however, we do despise how he and those close to him continue to manipulate our legal system with reckless abandon, devoid of morality and ethics, the very traits advertised to the American voters, that got him elected in the first place. Thank God the Dubai port deal caused a few (those of his own party included) to finally come to the realization that laws and regulations are being totally disregarded by this administration. This is why (letter writer) Matt Osborn compared Bush to a monarch.

Mr. Underwood, you mindlessly recapped Donald Rumsfeld's mendacity about how people who protest the actions of our president cause morale degradation in our troops. What about the morale of the veterans and their families who have returned home, only to have the government ignore their medical and financial needs? Perhaps you didn't know many Iraq veterans are protesting the war, as well as the treatment they are receiving from the president for whom they risked their lives. Were you aware that one in five troops want to heed Bush's call to stay 'as long as they are needed?' Did you also know that 78 percent of active troops are in favor of withdrawal within the year?

I could go on and on about other areas where our government has faltered, and all people like Mr. Underwood will hear is 'blah blah blah,' debunking me as a Bush-hating wacko socialist, as many conservatives take perverse joy in labeling Democrats.

Nevertheless, I am a citizen who recognizes when my government has turned its back on people like you and me. I will continue to speak out so that, hopefully, at least one person might decide to examine for themselves what the government is actually doing and not take mainstream media, redundant speeches and ridiculous administration P.R. stunts at face value.

Love Like This

Fellow Senators Praise Feingold’s Censure Resolution
A few less pussies in the Demo party.

33%:
And why are they being pussies when only a third of the country approves of King George?
"_Several recent polls, including the AP-Ipsos poll, have found Bush's approval ratings in the 30s. The Pew poll found Bush's job approval at 33 percent, the lowest ever in that poll."
Jessica Simpson snubs Bush
I mean, seriously, if Dumb isn't afraid to snub Dumber then what the fuck is the Democrats problem.

U.N. Ignores U.S., Approves Council 170-4:
Even the U.N. is telling Shrub and his crony Bolton to get fucked. It's also nice to note that the U.S. no longer approves of rights for humans.
"U.N. member states ignored U.S. opposition and overwhelmingly approved a new Human Rights Council on Wednesday, attempting to strengthen the world body's machinery to deal with major human rights offenders."
Crooks and Liars
This video sums it all up very nicely. Too bad it has to come from James Spader and a fictional TV show instead of a Democratic Sentor on the floor of the Senate.

Supreme Court Justice Reveals Death Threats:
This is the fruit borne by the wacko right's "War against Activist Judges" (meaning we want to kill those judges who don't agree with our radical agenda).
"WASHINGTON (March 15) - Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg said she and former Justice Sandra Day O'Connor have been the targets of death threats from the 'irrational fringe' of society, people apparently spurred by Republican criticism of the high court."
Republicans Block New Security Scrutiny
And people trust the Republicans why? Why can't folks follow the simplest rule of social interaction, "Watch what people do, not what they say". And just because a Republican says it doesn't make it true. In fact, chances are if a Rebulican is saying it... it's probably a lie.
"WASHINGTON Mar 15, 2006 (AP)— Republicans blocked a Democratic effort Wednesday to force House votes on expanding government scrutiny of foreign investments, the latest fallout from a Dubai-owned company's failed bid to run some U.S. port operations.

In a 224-192 procedural vote, the Republican-controlled House thwarted Democrats from offering two amendments to a $91 billion measure for wars and hurricane recovery. Democrats also planned to push for more port security money while criticizing Republicans on the issue.

'If the Republicans are now deciding to get on board, then we welcome them, because for so long they have been on a sinking ship, basically saying that our ports are secure,' said Rep. Bennie Thompson of Mississippi, lead Democrat on the House Homeland Security Committee."
"The Final Word Is Hooray!":
Speaking of what people say, check out this excellent article. Liberal media my ass.
"Around the same time as Hume's speech, syndicated columnist Cal Thomas declared (4/16/03): 'All of the printed and voiced prophecies should be saved in an archive. When these false prophets again appear, they can be reminded of the error of their previous ways and at least be offered an opportunity to recant and repent. Otherwise, they will return to us in another situation where their expertise will be acknowledged, or taken for granted, but their credibility will be lacking.'

Gathered here are some of the most notable media comments from the early days of the Iraq War:
Republicans Happier than Democrats

Lap Dogs of the Press

Gore: Country straying from principles
If he runs, he's my man:
"Gore mentioned the nation's official policy against torturing prisoners, dating to the American Revolution, when Gen. George Washington refused to allow captured British soldiers to be abused. 'Every president since, all the way through until now, has honored that principle,' he said.

'I truly believe that American democracy faces a time of challenge and trials that are more serious than we have ever faced,' Gore said. He pointed to the current White House, backed by a Republican Congress, which allows the government to eavesdrop on anyone's home, 'sneak and peek,' without a warrant. 'It sounds so strange, doesn't it, so contrary to the Constitution?'"
ACLU releases 'first concrete evidence' of domestic spying for anti-war views
"Documents released today by the American Civil Liberties Union reveal that the Federal Bureau of Investigations has indeed monitored political groups solely on the basis that they opposed a U.S.-led war."
Lap Dogs of the Press
Bitches. Every last one of them.
"Of all the unhappy trends I have witnessed--conservative swings on television networks, dwindling newspaper circulation, the jailing of reporters and 'spin'--nothing is more troubling to me than the obsequious press during the run-up to the invasion of Iraq. They lapped up everything the Pentagon and White House could dish out--no questions asked."
Isaac Hayes Quits 'South Park'
Fuck Chef, then. Crazy ass Scientologist.
"Stone told The AP he and co-creator Trey Parker 'never heard a peep out of Isaac in any way until we did Scientology. He wants a different standard for religions other than his own, and to me, that is where intolerance and bigotry begin.'"
Woman Gets Beer From Her Kitchen Faucet

Enough of the D.C. Dems

Enough of the D.C. Dems:
"Mah fellow progressives, now is the time for all good men and women to come to the aid of the party. I don’t know about you, but I have had it with the D.C. Democrats, had it with the DLC Democrats, had it with every calculating, equivocating, triangulating, straddling, hair-splitting son of a bitch up there, and that includes Hillary Rodham Clinton."
....
Take “unpatriotic” and shove it. How dare they do this to our country? “Unpatriotic”? These people have ruined the American military! Not to mention the economy, the middle class, and our reputation in the world. Everything they touch turns to dirt, including Medicare prescription drugs and hurricane relief.

This is not a time for a candidate who will offend no one; it is time for a candidate who takes clear stands and kicks ass.

George Clooney: I Am a Liberal. There, I Said It!:

"I am a liberal. And I make no apologies for it. Hell, I'm proud of it.

White House Aide Caught In Shoplifting Scheme
He wasn't just an "aide". He was really plugged into the administration. Check him out. Oh, and here is a link from the WaPo on a story (blowjob) they gave on Allen when he was nominated by Bush to be a judge on a federal appeals court:
'Conservative Values' Guide Court Appointee

"RICHMOND -- Claude A. Allen, nominated by President Bush last week to the nation's most conservative federal appeals court, was just out of college when he began to immerse himself in conservative policy and rough-and-tumble politics as the campaign pitchman for then-U.S. Sen. Jesse Helms (R-N.C.)."
One more time: McCain IS NOT a moderate:
"Now that the Republicans have started their presidential campaign, it's time to disabuse Americans of the notion that McCain is somehow a moderate"

This is how we do in NorCal:

"Gur thinks big. His goal is to play a part in creating a new kind of solar panel, one so light it could roll off a printing press like newsprint, and so cheap that the world's poorest local economies could not only afford to buy it but also make it."

Bush's Approval Rating Falls to New Low

Bush's Approval Rating Falls to New Low

At Conservative Forum on Bush, Everybody's a Critic:
"Well, it could have been because of the first speaker, former Reagan aide Bruce Bartlett. Author of the new book 'Impostor: How George W. Bush Bankrupted America and Betrayed the Reagan Legacy,' Bartlett called the administration 'unconscionable,' 'irresponsible,' 'vindictive' and 'inept.'"
In an Election Year, GOP Wary of Following Bush:
"'He has no political capital,' said Tony Fabrizio, a Republican pollster. 'Slowly but surely it's been unraveling. There's been a direct correlation between the trajectory of his approval numbers and the -- I don't want to call it disloyalty -- the independence on the part of the Republicans in Congress.'"
"When Would Jesus Bolt?" by Amy Sullivan:
"The Republicans were filibustering the Bible bill. On a Tuesday afternoon in early February, Republican legislators in Alabama took to the crimson-carpeted floor of the state house to oppose legislation that would authorize an elective course on the Bible in public high schools. The recommended curriculum for the course had been vouched for by Christian Right all-stars like Chuck Colson and Ted Haggard, but so far as Republicans were concerned, there was only one pertinent piece of information about the bill: It was sponsored by two Democrats. And now Republicans were prepared to do everything in their procedural power to stop it, even if that meant lining up to explain why they could not—could not!—stand for this attempt to bring a class about the Bible into public schools."
Sen. Pat Roberts (R-KS): Chairman of the Senate Cover-up Committee:
"As chairman of the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence, Sen. Pat Roberts’s (R-KS) duty is “to provide vigilant legislative oversight over the intelligence activities of the United States” and “to assure that such activities are in conformity with the Constitution and laws of the United States.” But on the most important intelligence issues facing Americans – such as the manipulation of Iraq intelligence, warrantless domestic spying, and torture - Roberts has transformed his committee into a “Senate Coverup Committee” for the Bush administration."

DBT & The Internet

Artists using Internet to promote their music: "
'It's the new radio,' says Patterson Hood, a Shoals native and vocalist/guitarist for the Drive-By Truckers.

Hood said his band has had a presence on the Web because a friend, Jen Bryant, created the band's Web site.

'We had a really good Internet presence before anybody had heard of our band because of her,' Hood said."
