Wow! Check out the company DBT is keeping in this Onion A.V. Club article. The comments are a worthy read too.

Hang on to your ego: 16 great bands with more than one prominent lead singer:

"Hell yeah on the DBT. Cooly and Hood both write great rock songs and they sing the shit outta them. it's the whole point/counterpoint of their songs and singing that makes DBT great. That and P. Hood sounds like my lawn mower when it's low on oil.
Elsewhere, I thought that Eagles argument was settled a long, long time ago."

Love this Zappa quote.

On the Beat: David Menconi on music - Talkin' 'bout Drive-By Truckers:

"The late Frank Zappa is said to have declared, 'Rock journalism is people who can't write, interviewing people who can't talk, for people who can't read.' Two of those might be true -- but don't try to tell me Patterson Hood can't talk. In contrast to many of the terse-spoken folks I deal with, the Drive-By Truckers' spiritual leader is an absolute joy to interview. During a recent phone chat, the five questions I asked Hood yielded 40 minutes of talk about kids, the previous night's Springsteen show, firebrand politics and the real-life subjects of various Truckers songs, among other topics. Most of the conversation centered on the Truckers' latest album, 'Brighter Than Creations Dark' (New West Records), which is named after a line in the song 'Checkout Time in Vegas.' According to Hood, settling on a title was the hardest part of making this record."

Check out Tom Heyman's new song called Selling Sand.

MySpace.com - Tom Heyman - SAN FRANCISCO, California - Americana / Folk Rock / Folk - www.myspace.com/tomheyman

I met Tom during the Dangerous Highway documentary post show last year. Ran into him again when he opened for a P. Hood solo show in SF a few months ago. Great guy, wonderful musician and this song kicks much ass.

Here's Tom's blurb about the song:

Disaster capitalism and war profiteering in song form.

Be sure to check out Tom's bio. He's worked with a lot of great musicians.

What do y'all think about Mike Zito? First song off his new record is "Love Like This". Got good taste in song titles. Also, his new record has a great cover of Little Red Corvette. LRC use to be a karaoke standard of mine back in the day. A sure pantie dropper.

Music News

David Byrne Converts Building Into Giant Instrument:

"Starting May 31, visitors to New York's Battery Maritime Building will be able to take part in Byrne's interactive music installation called simply 'Playing the Building.' Like its self-explanatory title implies, the Battery will be fitted with devices that will allow visitors to make music off of the piping, pillars and more. It's an interesting way to view the structures we take for granted in everyday life. According to Byrne, it could be the future of music itself."

Neil Young gets new honor -- his own spider:

"LOS ANGELES (Reuters Life!) - Iconic singer and songwriter Neil Young has had an honor bestowed upon him that is not received by many musicians -- his own spider.

An East Carolina University biologist, Jason Bond, discovered a new species of trapdoor spider and opted to call the arachnid after his favorite musician, Canadian Neil Young, naming it Myrmekiaphila neilyoungi."
