Not much DBT news this week except for a killer AHC! show coming up but we are looking forward to the beginning of 07 as more information on the long awaited solo albums from the DBT family will assuredly start flowing.
I'm heading back the Florence, Alabama for Thanksgiving with my brand new Canon XTi SLR digital camera. I'll be taking photos of a few DBT/Shoals song references I missed and hopefully I can sneak the Canon into the Alabama Theatre for the Thanksgiving show.
However, I am looking for suggestions from you folks. If there's any North West Alabama sites that you'd like to see that I haven't covered in the previous DBT pictures tours, drop me a comment in this post. I need a lot of practice with this camera and any suggestions would be greatly welcomed.

Back to the future with DBT... for a damn good cause:
Remember Adam's House Cat? That's the band Patterson and Cooley had way before DBT, and they had some incredible songs. Some of the most rockin' DBT songs were once AHC songs in fact - Buttholeville and Lookout Mountain to name a couple - but there were lots of other amazing tunes that rarely see the light of day anymore.
Cooley and Patterson have only gotten together to do AHC songs 2 or 3 times since AHC broke up, but they're gonna do it again for a great cause. Sabina Hartley-Burke is the 7-year-old daughter of some old friends. Sabina was recently diagnosed with a malignant tumor on her brain stem, and of course medical costs are an incredible burden on the family. Here in the DBT camp we're all too aware of the insane problems with medical costs in this country, and doing whatever we can to help bring attention to them is important to all of us.
The benefit will be held on December 1, 2006 at Nuçi's Space in Athens, GA. It's a rare opportunity to see Adam's House Cat songs performed once again, as well as help a wonderful little girl and her family with their overwhelming medical expenses. Tony, the drummer for The Drams writes about the final show with DBT on the recent tour.

"Nashville was next on our little journey. There was a change of venue, but that didn't seem to bother attendance. Of note: Cooley's wife and kids came in town, and his oldest son got to watch backstage(with aircraft headphones and mini-guitar). Many of you do not know I'm an old softie, and seeing that boy rock out to his daddy was cuter than fucking puppies and kittens. Also of note Jenn, and Shayne came into N and brightened our lives! Jayne and her boyfriend came in for her B-day, and I got to meet Jason's mom. A good time was had by all. Keith more than others. I could tell by his hangover the next day.
The official last gig of this tour was in Memphis. I have a small love affair for dirty,filthy, nasty, Memphis. S.B. recorded EYTWRWWT at Ardent studios, and we got to stay there a month, with fond memories. This was kinda like a small homecoming for the Truckers as they lived there for a time. The theater had to have been sold out. I think we did o.k., there were some dropped jaws. I don't know if it was because we kicked ass, or if the people were thinking 'What is this shit?', but we had a blast. Mark came out shirtless we a tray of drinks in the middle of the set. It seems we had another member of the Sasqautsch Nation. After the DBT's blistering set we hung out on their bus, kissed their asses, exchanged #'s, lamented that we weren't going to see each other for a while. Just like summer camp. We then hopped in the van with tears in our eyes and headed home for Denton."

Stardom, a particular kind of celebrity, becomes politicized after WWII, when the cultural meaning of stars shifted from one focused on personality and glamour to one in which stars increasing stood for ideological positions or were understood as spokespeople for political causes. Stars of the studio era represented not ideologies, but a range of richly conceived personalities. They appeared in films that, because of the production code, seldom featured political controversy. Popular musicians were if anything even more remote from politics. The Cold War and changes in the cultural industries meant that after the war, popular culture would much more often be perceived politically. John Wayne, Marilyn Monroe, and James Dean as instances of politicized movie stars. Rock & roll stars, however, were political from the start, as the controversy generated by Elvis Presley in 1956 shows. By the late the 1960s, rock stars had displaced movie stars as the leading entertainment royalty, but they very different from the movie stars they replaced. The Rolling Stones, Bob Dylan, the Grateful Dead, James Brown, Bruce Springsteen, and Joni Mitchell all have distinct political significance.
