Space City Round-up

Are we witnessing the fall or Rome part deux? Some say 'yes'. (I SO could write copy for FAUX News).

Op-Ed Columnist - Our Epic Foolishness - NYTimes.com:
"If a bank is too big to fail, it’s way too big to exist. If an oil well is too far beneath the sea to be plugged when something goes wrong, it’s too deep to be drilled in the first place.

When are we going to stop behaving so stupidly? We nearly wrecked the economy and we’re all but buried in debt. But we can’t break up the biggest banks, and we can’t raise taxes. Now we’re fouling the magnificent Gulf of Mexico and ruining entire communities along the southern Louisiana Coast."

State Capitalism

Here's an important lesson for us all. Get your learning hat on:

AMERICAblog News: State capitalism & you:
"Thanks to the BP spill and the excellent coverage of it by people like Chris in Paris and a host of others, the relationship between the state and capitalism is coming under the microscope — a very good thing. This post offers a bit of orientation, and a small peek forward.

So let's look at three concepts and see how they interact. The first two are:

* The state (the federal government, the People's Republic, the Thousand-Year Reich, whatever)

* The owners of the means of production (capitalists, bankers, the 'Big Boys,' that ilk)

The third concept to notice is the national interest (sometimes mislabeled 'patriotism' or 'chauvinism,' after M. Chauvin)."

A Republican opens their mouth and a lie falls out. Must be a Thursday.

Brewer tells conflicting stories about dad's war effort:
"Gov. Jan Brewer said in a recent interview that her father died fighting Nazis in Germany. In fact, the death of Wilford Drinkwine came 10 years after World War II had ended.

During the war, Drinkwine worked as a civilian supervisor for a naval munitions depot in Hawthorne, Nev. He died of lung disease in 1955 in California.
......
'Knowing that my father died fighting the Nazi regime in Germany, that I lost him when I was 11 because of that... and then to have them call me Hitler's daughter. It hurts. It's ugliness beyond anything I've ever experienced,' Brewer said in the story, published Tuesday.

Nude People Got.... Some Reason...

Yes, the nudes have rights... but short people?..... fuck those guys.

Wis. court: Nude people still have privacy rights:

"A state appeals court ruled Tuesday that a person who is voluntarily nude in the presence of another still has privacy rights against being secretly videotaped, in a decision that bolsters Wisconsin's video voyeur law."

I'll bet you a bazillion dollars that the Sonoma, Mendocino and Humboldt coast will never, ever see a platform raised.

Imagine 100,000 personal watercraft off of these coastlines raising unheard of holy hell. It will make Greenpeace look like a flotilla of intertubes.

NorCal folks know how to stop some shit from going down... and they will most definitely prevent this from ever happening.

Bush is cute when he thinks the state of California will take any of his last minute bullshit.

Fuck that guy.

Drillers eye oil reserves off California coast:

"The federal government is taking steps that may open California's fabled coast to oil drilling in as few as three years, an action that could place dozens of platforms off the Sonoma, Mendocino and Humboldt coasts, and raises the specter of spills, air pollution and increased ship traffic into San Francisco Bay."

These aren't the first two boys to try this. Its a wonder there hasn't been a push by a bunch of nanny trolls to ban 'A Christmas Story' due to the multitude of damaged little boy tongues.

Boys Stick Tongues on Frozen Flagpole:

"Two fourth-grade boys mimicking a scene from the movie 'A Christmas Story' wound up with their tongues stuck to a frozen flagpole.

'I decided to try it because I thought all of the TV shows were lies, but turns out I was wrong,' Gavin said.

'The nurse asked them, 'OK, who double-dog dared who?'' Billie Dempsey said, a reference to a phrase that a character in the movie used to dare another child to stick his tongue to the pole."

Mississippi Monkey

Man, this September 'surge' report is becoming the most ludicrous display of marketing spin containing no factual data pony show evah.

Patsy... I mean Patraeus is already stating that he will recommend some troops being pulled out. First, if you believe that then your part of the 25%'ers and any troops leaving 'before we've achieved victory (whatever the fuck that is) probably pisses you off. But yer not pissed off because you saw the 'wink-wink'. Smoke and mirrors.... and not the sexy kind.

Bush has already jacked up the troops levels this year so he could pull a few back come September to 'fool' folks. If you get fooled by this then you are a fool.

Fool me once......

Democrats, quit sucking your thumb and pull the plug on this meat grinder. I look forward to voting out the fake Democrats as much as I look forward to tossing Republicans

White House is writing General Petraeus' September progress report on "the surge" in Iraq:

"Incredible. Absolutely incredible. These people have no shame. The 'big' report coming this September, the one Bush has been telling us we should wait for before making any decisions about what to do next in Iraq. Well, the White House is writing the frigging report. From today's Los Angeles Times:.....

And special brownie points to the LA Times for burying this huge revelation at the end of the story where no one would see it."

From what you've sown....

Suicide rate in Army at a 26-year high:

"WASHINGTON - Ninety-nine U.S. soldiers killed themselves last year, the highest rate of suicide in the Army in 26 years, a new report says."
_______

No fucking shit, Obama. And the rest of the Dem candidates need to realize that Bush ain't running again. Fuck using Bush. It's the entire Republican party. Ignore Bush on the campaign trail. Hammer Republican ideology.

I am digging what Obama is saying below. I want my government more open than a 7/11.

Obama says Bush not solely to blame:

"To make the government more accountable, Obama said he would post all non-emergency bills online for five days before he signed them into law, allowing Americans a chance to weigh in on the legislation. In addition, he said he would post all meetings between lobbyists and government agencies online. Obama said he would require Cabinet officials to speak to Americans via national broadband town-hall style meetings to discuss issues at their agencies. He also pledged to issue an executive order that information about the government's operations must be released to those seeking it unless it could harm a protected interest"

Didn't realize Rove was going into comedy after he resigns.

What-the-fuck-ever, Rove. Yeah, Bush is one of the best-read people you've ever met?!?

What kind of losers do you hang out with?

Rove: Bush’s critics are ’snobs’ who hate his ‘common sense.’:

"In his interview with Rush Limbaugh this afternoon, Karl Rove claimed that the people criticizing Bush are “sort of elite, effete snobs who can’t hold a candle to this guy. What they don’t like about him is that he is common sense, that he is Middle America.” Limbaugh suggest that Bush critics are frustrated the the President “outsmarts ‘em.” Rove argued Bush is far more intelligent than people give him credit for, and is “one of the best-read people I’ve ever met” whose “passion is history.” Listen to a portion of the interview:"

Daily Kos: Right-wing terrorists threaten bombing in Alabama:

"If al Qaeda threatened to blow up a building anywhere in the United States how long do you suppose it would take before Michael Chertoff and George Bush and Dick Cheney were screaming at the top of their lungs on TV about it? Probably less time than it takes the Pentagon to spend $1 million in Iraq. But apparently home-grown racist extremists can threaten to blow up a buildingwith nary a peep from our valiant leaders in the War on Terror.

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) — The Southern Poverty Law Center, which filed suit against the nation's second-largest Ku Klux Klan group, has increased security following threats from white supremacists to blow up its building. The Montgomery-based center filed suit July 25 against the Imperial Klans of America in Kentucky's Meade County Circuit Court over the beating of a 16-year-old boy of Panamanian descent. 'The latest case against the IKA promises to be as dangerous as anything we've faced,' SPLC co-founder Morris Dees stated in an e-mail Monday. 'We won't back down from these threats, but we'll have to increase our security to ensure the safety of our staff.'"

I have deep empathy for the extremely bored.... *yawn*.

Empathy can spark contagious yawning: study:

"LONDON (Reuters) - Showing empathy can make for a lot of yawning. ADVERTISEMENT A study of autistic children has bolstered evidence that people who identify better with others are more prone to contagious yawning, Japanese researchers say. Scientists have long known that one yawn often leads others to follow suit but what triggers the phenomenon is not as clear, said Atsushi Senju, a researcher at the University of London who worked on the study. Some believe it is simply a reflex. Others suggest the same mechanisms in the brain that make people feel empathy also cause them to yawn when they see others doing the same, he said."

Mom Sentenced for Posing As Son's Wife:

"A woman was sentenced to 30 days in jail for claiming in court that she was her son's wife. Christopher Crowe, 25, was in court recently to plead guilty to four felony counts including residential entry and domestic battery. During the hearing, the judge asked if Crowe's wife agreed with the plea deal. Crowe's mother, 47-year-old Rebecca Crowe, stood up, said she was Crowe's wife and said the plea agreement was OK. Later, Vanderburgh County Deputy Prosecutor Anna Clutter discovered Rebecca Crowe's identity when she saw a picture of Christopher Crowe's wife, a much younger woman. Courtroom personnel later admitted they thought the woman looked too old."

When the Well Runs Dry

Awful. Absolutely awful.

Infrastructure matters. Pumps and levees and bridges and powerlines..... all matter.

Only those who believe government can be a solution can fix our crumbling infrastructure.

Those who believe that government should be shrunk so small as to be able to drown it in a bath tub, well......

Terrible, terrible, terrible.

Police: More victims in submerged cars:
"MINNEAPOLIS - Divers searched the Mississippi River on Thursday for more bodies entombed in cars trapped beneath the twisted steel and concrete slabs of a collapsed bridge. As many as 30 people were missing as the rescue effort shifted to recovery."
_______

George Bush is funding the terrorist with weapons. And history repeats and repeats and repeats......

Danger Room - Wired Blogs:

"The Pentagon 'cannot ensure that U.S.-funded equipment has reached Iraqi security forces,' according to a new report from the Government Accountability Office.

Not only did Multinational Security Transition Command-Iraq (MNSTC-I) fail to 'maintain a centralized record of all equipment distributed to Iraqi forces before December 2005.' But there's 'a discrepancy of at least 190,000 weapons between data reported by the former MNSTC-I commander and the property books,' too."
______

More weapons incompetence.... or greed. It is one or the other. Pick your poison.

"--a plane flown only by Iran--"

Why don't we just hand deliver the schematics for a nuke to Iran.

GAO: Pentagon mistakenly sold F-14 parts:

"WASHINGTON - The Pentagon accidentally sold to the public more than a thousand aircraft parts that could be used on the F-14 fighter jet — a plane flown only by Iran — after saying it had halted such sales, government investigators say."
_______

With such appalling displays of incompetence and downright fucking evilness why would anyone trust a Conservative government to spy. Why would you trust them to only go after 'the bad guys'.

I promise you that the Bush Administration are using these 'surveillance activities' in ways that would make Nixon's break in look like play school.

I want my Constitution back. I want my country back.

Bush Administration's intelligence chief acknowledges 'series' of other 'secret surveillance activities':

"President Bush authorized a 'series of secret surveillance activities' by executive order after Sept. 11, 2001, according to a letter from Bush Director of National Intelligence Mike McConnell to Sen. Arlen Specter (R-PA).

The disclosure marks the first time 'that the administration has publicly acknowledged that Bush's order included undisclosed activities beyond the warrantless surveillance of e-mails and phone calls that Bush confirmed in December 2005,' according to the Washington Post."

Titties and cock. Story at Ten

Khalid Sheikh Mohammed: I was behind 9/11, transcript says

Update: Told ya so.
"On Thursday, NBC's Today show explored whether the confessions of alleged 9/11 'mastermind' Khalid Sheikh Mohammed can be trusted since he claimed to have been tortured after being detained."
And check out who the hard-hitting investigative reporter is... Matt Lauer. He squeezed this in between the story about the puppies in Pennsylvania who poot peppermint.
......

29 attacks they say he admitted to. He also plotted wedgies for Powell and Rice and had plans to drop 100 water ballons off of Seattles Space Needle and AND he was going to start naughty rumors about George W. Bush doing cocaine... no, wait.

Look, I'm not sayin' Khalid is a good guy. He's a bad buy, ok. He, more than likely, needs to be strung up from the rafters. What I am saying is isn't it interesting how this story gets trotted out at this moment? When A.G. Abu Gonzales is under massive pressure to resign for being a political opertative, firing people unjustly and for political gain, and for lying to Congress?

Also, in the gulag that is Guantanamo, can any confession be believed? You torture me and I'll admit to damn near anything.

Of course the MSM is breathlessly reporting the fuck out of it. Rove has so got them on a string still. Dumbasses all.

It's just like we caught Al Queda #2 again, isn't it.

...and it sucks that I have to be skeptical about his admissions. Thanks BushCo. If he was tried in a formal court of law, I'd be the first to throw a rock at his swinging body.

_______

Of course Bush is gonna veto this one. Open government? Bitch, please!

Call your Reps and tell them you support this bill.

Open government bills stir veto threats :
