Love Is in the Air - Music - Nashville Scenepage 1
"I was living in New York and a friend gave me Southern Rock Opera," explains Hold Steady frontman Craig Finn. "So I went to see the Truckers at Bowery Ballroom, and it was one of the top rock shows of my life. The first time is maybe always the best time when you see a band. I just couldn't take my eyes off them. They played all night and drank a ton of beer. It was just so cool."

No wonder the Drive-By Truckers' publicist quipped that they should be calling the band's tour with The Hold Steady the "Man Love Tour."

For a certain breed of rock fan—those who like their rock literate and loud—this tour is a wondrous fantasy, Hanukkah come early, OMFG. But for all the mutual man love going around, the two bands don't necessarily seem like a logical pairing—the No Depression cover boys and the Pitchfork darlings—yet they share some powerful similarities.
_______

The Hold Steady/Drive-By Truckers Post-Election Rock 'n' Roll Hangover - Music - Village Voicepage 1 - Village Voice:

"They hit New York City November 6 and 7. 'I'm concerned about the mood of the shows the following days after Election Day,' admits Hold Steady frontman Craig Finn. 'Depending on how it goes, it could be a big celebration.'

Conversely, if Finn-favored Obama somehow loses what is currently a double-digit lead, Truckers frontman Patterson Hood, who shares Finn's political affiliation, predicts something much less jovial. 'It'll be an angry motherfucking show,' he says. 'I'll tell you that.'"
_______

A new team of Truckers on the road, eager to rock 'n' roll:

"Patterson Hood, the de facto leader of The Drive-By Truckers, is feeling good about making music again.

Such has not always been the case.

'This band has been going 12 years, and during that time I've been through just about every emotion a sane or insane man can think up, as well as going through a bunch of band members, brain cells and a round or two of wives and domiciles,' Hood said in his thick Southern drawl, the result of being born and raised in Alabama and coming of age in Athens, Ga.,"

Muscle Shoals Rhythm section inducted in hall of fame | TimesDaily.com | The Times Daily | Florence, AL
Bob Seger's "Old Time Rock 'n' Roll" never sounded better than when the past met the future Tuesday during the Musicians Hall of Fame Awards Show.

Fresh off their induction into the Musicians Hall of Fame, members of the Muscle Shoals Rhythm Section joined Kid Rock for a rousing rendition of the Seger classic, which is just one of many hits the group was a part of.

"It's pretty cool," bassist David Hood said.

While he appreciated the recognition, Hood said he was honored to be inducted alongside the likes of Booker T and the MGs, Buddy Holly's band, The Crickets and country music legend George Jones.

"These are some of my personal heroes," Hood said.

Then it wouldn't be 'Led Zeppelin', now would it?

Led Zeppelin May Tour - Without Robert Plant:

"LONDON — Led Zeppelin may yet reunite and tour _ and they'd consider doing it without Robert Plant.

John Paul Jones, the group's founding bassist, told the BBC that he and his fellow band members would consider looking for someone to replace their lead singer.

'We want to do it. It's sounding great and we want to get and get out there,' he told the British radio program in an interview broadcast Monday. 'It's got to be right. There's no point in just finding another Robert.'"

Hilarious and a great way to mock the 'socialist' ridiculousness. Obama's laugh at the end is priceless:

Obama: Will McCain accuse me of being communist next?:

"'That's why he's spending these last few days calling me every name in the book. I'm sorry to see my opponent sink so low,' Obama said, according to prepared remarks released by his campaign.

'Lately, he's called me a socialist for wanting to roll back the Bush tax cuts for the wealthiest Americans so we can finally give tax relief to the middle class,' he continued. 'By the end of the week, he'll be accusing me of being a secret communist because I shared my toys in Kindergarten.'"

Texas Voters Urged to Avoid Straight-Party Option, After Vote-Flip Complaints | Threat Level from Wired.com

Reagan was a Pinko:

Gergen: Reagan administration enacted 'redistribution' of wealth:

"Senator John McCain has been attempting to appeal to voters lately by attacking Barack Obama over his plans to reduce taxes for the middle class while increasing them on the wealthiest Americans.

Political analyst David Gergen believes the Democrats ought to fight back harder than they have against these claims that Obama is a 'socialist' and suggests they start by pointing out that the most esteemed Republican presidents, such as Teddy Roosevelt and Ronald Reagan, were also supporters of what McCain decries as 'income redistribution.'"

Revved Til the Rods are Thrown

Mixing a little sports and Obama today to begin.

Great article by Reilly. Read it all.

Meet Rick Reilly's fantasy football partner: Barack Obama:

"I have the absolute worst fantasy league football partner. Just try to get the guy to return a call. Or a text. You need a damn court order.

He's Barack Obama. And, yeah, I guess he's busy, but why was I the one who had to fly to Dayton, get frisked and have bomb dogs drool on my bags just so I could meet him getting off his tricked-out, chartered 757? He can't meet a guy halfway?

I asked each candidate to be my running mate for one week in a fantasy league, just to see what kind of president he'd make—how he'd handle decisions under pressure and balance a budget. (On ESPN.com's Gridiron Challenge, you get a mystical $50M to spend on a team.) Only Obama bit. We settled on the Week 6 games.

"Do I believe in evil? Do I believe that Karl Rove is evil? I do. I don’t mean that he was necessarily raised to be evil. But I think that, like Caligula, he turned himself into an evil ruler. He has subverted democracy and, by the way, done a great disservice to the Republican Party. I hear that more and more—like the former head of the Alabama Republican Party, whom I ran into at the airport in Washington lately. He told me, “I told them they should have stopped at [defeating you in] the election.” Yes, I think there are evil people in the world, and I think Karl Rove is one of them."

Daily Kos: Lynch Mob:

"Ashley Todd, the young Texan McCain volunteer who claimed she was mugged, sexually assaulted and had a 'B' carved into her face by a 'dark-skinned' black man near an ATM in Pittsburgh, has confessed that she made up her story. Just as several of us said would happen. It’s hard to know what the cops and the district attorney will do. Making a false report to the police is usually a felony. Anti-Intellectualism

Stupid is as stupid does.

Read the whole thing. Its good.

Your grades are too high? | TimesDaily.com | Florence, AL:

"When did this petty anti-intellectualism take over the conservative movement? The respectable wisdom of William F. Buckley and George Will has been set aside for the pablum of crowd-pleasing know-nothings like Sarah Palin. Anyone using more than two syllables in a word is suspected of communist leanings; 'articulate' has become a four-letter word. Judging from crowd behavior at GOP rallies, the Republican base seems intent on establishing a flag-waving, cross-bearing idiocracy -- and it isn't just this one letter-writer clamoring for government a la Harrison Bergeron. The trend is general, reflected in the talk of 'Joe Six-Pack' having a shot at the vice presidency. Frankly, that prospect scares the hell out of me. Joe might be a perfectly good plumber, but how will he keep Wall Street MBAs from walking all over the taxpayers?"
_______

More on Republican anti-intellectualism

Why smart Republicans are PISSED at their party:

"Republicans turned their backs on smart people. Just like that, being smart was less important than being 'real'. Being qualified was about being ordinary. New ideas and thoughtful discourse was something to be ridiculed and not something to be examined. A good education and vocabulary became something to disdain and not something to celebrate. The Republicans stopped being leaders and started becoming drum bangers. Oh, they'd pull out their tanks and missiles like they were penises and pretend that asking questions was akin to treason. Scary.'"
_______

Kos states what I believe.

Daily Kos: Break their spirits:

"I realize there are people uncomfortable with aggressive language and action. That's the difference between liberal weenies and movement progressives. Liberal weenies sit around thinking that 'the truth' is enough for victory, and that if we simply explain to voters why Democrats are better, why, we can't possibly lose any elections! That's the crowd that wants to keep the 'high ground' and doesn't want to go down in the gutters and fight the GOP where they live, lest we get a little muddied ourselves.

Movement progressives realize that we must do everything necessary allowable under the law to win because elections have consequences. This isn't about who is most pure, but about taking the fight to the enemy and aggressively embracing progressivism, offering clear contrasts between us and them, and fighting fire with fire. There's no ambiguity about where I belong."

Hunger and Meaness

I swear, once the election is over I'm going to spend a week or two blogging about nothing but pure folly.

Alas, there's still much work to be done and they'll be even more come January when there will be no 100 day honeymoon for the Obama administration. You think its gotten ugly now, wait until you see the Rethugs banished to the political wilderness. They'll be lashing out like never before.

Tryin' to Get a Nut....

Debunking the ACORN myth.

Voter suppression, NOT voter fraud.

Eschaton:

"Sometimes the press covers stories in such a way that it's impossible to believe they're really this stupid. The evil ACORN is the latest example. Voter registration fraud is not voter fraud. In many states people who do voter registration are obligated to turn in forms even they're filled out by 'Mickey Mouse.' They're a conduit for the forms and don't have the right to determine which ones they turn in."
_______

Talking Points Memo | The Gist of the ACORN Story:

"The Republican party is grasping on to the ACORN story as a way to delegitimize what now looks like the probable outcome of the November election. It is also a way to stoke the paranoia of their base, lays the groundwork for legal challenges of close outcomes in various states and new legal restrictions on voting by lower income voters and minorities. The big picture is that these claims of 'voter fraud' are themselves a fraud, a tool to aid in suppressing Democratic voter turnout. But I want give readers a bit more detail to understand what is going because the right-wing freak out about ACORN happens pretty much on schedule every two years. The whole scam is premised on having enough people who don't remember when they tried it before who they can confuse and lie to. And this is clearly important because I'm hearing from a lot of people whose heart is in the right place thinking some real voter fraud conspiracy has been uncovered and that Obama has to distance himself from it post-haste."
_______

Daily Kos: Shocker! CNN finally gets it right on ACORN (UPDATED x3):

_______

Editorial - The Acorn Story - NYTimes.com:

"Based on the information that has come to light so far, the charges appear to be wildly overblown — and intended to hobble Acorn’s efforts.
.......

"The answer is for government to do a better job of registering people to vote. That way there would be less need to rely on private registration drives, largely being conducted by well-meaning private organizations that use low-paid workers. Federal and state governments should do their own large-scale registration drives staffed by experienced election officials. Even better, Congress and the states should adopt election-day registration, which would make such drives unnecessary.

The real threats to the fabric of democracy are the unreasonable barriers that stand in the way of eligible voters casting ballots."
_______

Talking Points Memo | Ex DOJ Voting Rights Chief: "It's Going to Take a Long Time to Cleanse" Department:

"A former top Department of Justice voting rights official -- who once worked with John McCain in defense of the senator's campaign-finance reform bill -- has added his name to the growing chorus that is denouncing the department's investigation of ACORN as a shameful and inappropriate politicization of Justice along the lines of the US attorney firings."
_______

Greg Palast ROLLING STONE: It’s Already Stolen:

"Don’t worry about Mickey Mouse or ACORN stealing the election. According to an investigative report out today in Rolling Stone magazine, Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and Greg Palast, after a year-long investigation, reveal a systematic program of 'GOP vote tampering' on a massive scale.

- Republican Secretaries of State of swing-state Colorado have quietly purged one in six names from their voter rolls.

Over several months, the GOP politicos in Colorado stonewalled every attempt by Rolling Stone to get an answer to the massive purge - ten times the average state's rate of removal."
_______

Daily Kos: PLEASE, Get Your Facts Straight On ACORN:

"Fact: ACORN has implemented the most sophisticated quality-control system in the voter engagement field, but in almost every state we are required to turn in ALL completed applications, even the ones we know to be problematic."

Fact: ACORN flags incomplete, problem, or suspicious cards when we turn them in, but these warnings are often ignored by election officials. Often these same officials then come back weeks or months later and accuse us of deliberately turning in phony cards.

Fact: Voter fraud by individuals is extremely rare, and incredibly difficult. There has never been a single proven case of anyone, anywhere, casting an illegal vote as a result of a phony voter registration. Even if someone wanted to influence the election this way, it would not work.
_______

They were for ACORN before they were against it.

ACORN: McCain And GOP Used To Be Supporters:

"It was a reminder that, for all their electoral histrionics, Republicans have aligned themselves with ACORN in the past.

Indeed, in addition to the McCain photo, there is a host of examples of prominent McCain surrogates attending ACORN events, signing ACORN legislation, or complimenting the group's efforts.

Florida Gov. Charlie Crist, for example, partnered with ACORN in March 2008 for a 'Homeownership Promotes The Economy' taskforce. More recently, Crist declared that -- contrary to GOP outrage -- he was not upset with the group's voter registration efforts in his state. The New York Times reported that ACORN supported a law signed by Governor Crist, which 'changed the rules last year to restore the voting rights of about 112,000 former convicts.'

In July 2005, meanwhile, another Republican governor, Rick Perry of Texas, signed ACORN's Lending Law Reform Bill that changed the state's homelending practices."
_______

The Raw Story | Judge: GOP's voter purge a 'violation of federal law':

"The American Civil Liberties Union is trumpeting a judge's decision in Michigan which brings to a halt the practice of eliminating voters from rolls if their mailing address is found to be invalid.

Recently, the GOP chairman in Macomb County, Michigan, detailed a plan to use a list of foreclosed homes to challenge voters. His pronouncement drew an immediate backlash, with predictions that the plan would 'backfire.'

It has.

The suit, filed by ACLU national and ACLU of Michigan, along with the Advancement Project, aimed to protect voters whose registration cards were returned to government offices by post as 'undeliverable.' Judge Stephen J. Murphy of the U.S. District Court of Michigan's Eastern District concluded that the program of eliminating these voters from rolls is in violation of federal law.

The voter purge program, better known to elections integrity experts as 'voter caging,' is a long-storied GOP tactic employed against minority, student and low-income voters. In September, the Obama campaign filed a lawsuit in Michigan challenging the illegal tactic."
_______

Turley: 'GOP challenges look like suppression':

"The McCain campaign's allegations of voter fraud 'look like' an attempt to suppress voting in battleground states, said a professor of George Washington University.

Professor Jonathan Turley said there is an 'uncanny similarity in term of timing,' drawing a comparison with voting scandals shortly before the previous two presidential elections.

'I think it is fair to say that some of these challenges do look like suppression efforts,' Turley said in an interview on MSNBC. 'So I think there is really grounds to be concerned here.'"
_______

The Charleston Gazette - West Virginia News and Sports - News - More W.Va. voters say machines are switching votes:
"WINFIELD, W.Va. -- Three Putnam County voters say electronic voting machines changed their votes from Democrats to Republicans when they cast early ballots last week.

This is the second West Virginia county where voters have reported this problem. Last week, three voters in Jackson County told The Charleston Gazette their electronic vote for 'Barack Obama' kept flipping to 'John McCain'.

In both counties, Republicans are responsible for overseeing elections. Both county clerks said the problem is isolated.

_______

Voters say they were duped into registering as Republicans - Los Angeles Times:

"SACRAMENTO -- Dozens of newly minted Republican voters say they were duped into joining the party by a GOP contractor with a trail of fraud complaints stretching across the country.

Voters contacted by The Times said they were tricked into switching parties while signing what they believed were petitions for tougher penalties against child molesters. Some said they were told that they had to become Republicans to sign the petition, contrary to California initiative law. Others had no idea their registration was being changed."

Official Gmail Blog: New in Labs: Stop sending mail you later regret:

"Sometimes I send messages I shouldn't send. Like the time I told that girl I had a crush on her over text message. Or the time I sent that late night email to my ex-girlfriend that we should get back together. Gmail can't always prevent you from sending messages you might later regret, but today we're launching a new Labs feature I wrote called Mail Goggles which may help.

When you enable Mail Goggles, it will check that you're really sure you want to send that late night Friday email. And what better way to check than by making you solve a few simple math problems after you click send to verify you're in the right state of mind?"

By default, Mail Goggles is only active late night on the weekend as that is the time you're most likely to need it. Once enabled, you can adjust when it's active in the General settings.

DBT Week in Review - 10/17/08

More calm before the October 3oth rock storm......

Update this week from Patterson....

Drive-By Truckers

So here are my TOP FIVE FAVORITE THE HOLD STEADY SONGS (and why)

1. CHILLOUT TENT - This is the song the me first fall in love with the band. If "Let There Be Rock" was my snapshot of going to The Rock Show back when I was a teenager, it could be argued that this one is theirs. At any rate, it tells a great story with both humor and pathos and like so many of their songs is cinematic as hell. I also love the irreverent reinvention of the sappy Greece "Summer Lovin'" scene into a classic slab of pop-culture revision that somehow manages to be both ironically detached and humanistically warm. A rare feat in modern culture, especially from a Rock and Roll Band.

One of my favorite songs of the decade.

2. LORD I'M DISCOURAGED - My favorite song on the new album and probably my favorite song so far this year. Also cinematic as hell (boy, it's hard not to use that phrase in describing this band). This song plays out like a five minute movie with humor and drama. Even a twist at the end. A beautiful piece of work with an absolutely bitchin' guitar solo to boot.

3. YOUR LITTLE HOODRAT FRIEND - This one plays out more like better version of classic era alternative rock (boy that's a funny concept in its own rite) turbo charged and taken up about ten notches in the writing department. Damn, they write great Rock and Roll songs. This song is truly hilarious from start to finish (getting even better as it builds up to the punch line) and it Rocks like pure hellfire. Many of my favorite songs ever written are structured like a well told joke that builds to the payoff punch line at the end. This one does that about as well as any song I could name.

4. STEVIE NICKS - I may be totally full of shit, but this one hits me like some kind of deconstructed Springsteen song (especially when it starts coming unhinged toward the end) and I mean this in the absolute best of ways. Listening to THS, I always got the feeling that they were trying to build their idea of an ultimate Rock and Roll Band, taking elements they all loved from their favorites growing up and reconstituting them on their own terms to build their version of the perfect beast. All of my favorite bands through the years seemed to take this approach; including The Clash and yes, Bruce Springsteen (and yes, Drive-By Truckers) and to me few have ever nailed the concept any better than The Hold Steady.

5. STAY POSITIVE - Here we have a great song that references it's own catchiness in the second verse ("The singalong songs will be our scriptures") immediately followed by the most amazingly unshakable singalong chorus of the last decade and a half. This song is a monster hit single waiting to happen and if there was any justice (or half decent radio) it would be blasting from every car stereo in America.

Kill Him?!?

Not much ambiguity when one makes the "Kill him" statement.

Yep.

Palin Rally: "Kill Him" Yelled Again:

"Via Politico, The Scranton Times reports another threat against Barack Obama at a Sarah Palin rally Tuesday:

Chris Hackett addressed the increasingly feisty crowd as they await the arrival of Gov. Palin.

Each time the Republican candidate for the seat in the 10th Congressional District mentioned Barack Obama the crowd booed loudly.

One man screamed 'kill him!'"

Paper Tigers

Ruffled some feathers yesterday. Good.

I made the following statement: "All Republicans are racists".

Now, of course I don't actually believe that all (100%) of people who identify themselves as Republicans are racists. I can make a good case, though, that all people who are 'racists' also identify themselves as Republicans.

Here's the point: Republicans have not had a problem calling me and those like me who have questioned their policies and actions 'unpatriotic' or ones who 'hate America first' or 'faggot commies' or that I 'hate the troops'. Statements far more outlandish than the over-generalization that 'All Republicans are racists'.

Or, how about the Republican VP candidate who says that the Democratic Presidential candidate is 'palling around with terrorist' which is not just a lie but a goddamn lie. Or this same VP candidate calling Obama a 'baby killer'.

Or a Republican Presidential candidate that infers that Obama is 'other'.... not truly American. Questioning his motives as something evil and born out of some type of differenceness (I know it ain't a word, but work with me here).

God forbid, someone bring up the much closer connection McCain has to a fo' real terrorist:

Carl Bernstein: Ayers and the McCain-G. Gordon Liddy Symbiosis

Certainly McCain's continuing 'association' and relationship with the convicted Watergate burglar and domestic terrorist G. Gordon Liddy might suggest that is the case, if we are to apply the standards drawn by the McCain campaign.
...........

In 1998, Liddy gave a fundraiser in his Scottsdale, Arizona home for McCain's senatorial re-election campaign -- the two posed for photographs together; and as recently as May, 2007, as a presidential candidate, McCain was a guest on Liddy's syndicated radio show. Inexplicably, McCain heaped praise on his host's values. During the segment, McCain said he was 'proud' of Liddy, and praised Liddy's 'adherence to the principles and philosophies that keep our nation great.' From the program:"

During the same period that Bill Ayers was a member of the Weather Underground, Gordon Liddy was making plans to firebomb a Washington think tank, assassinate a prominent journalist, undertake the Watergate burglary, break into the office of Daniel Ellsberg's psychiatrist, and kidnap anti-war protesters at the 1972 Republican convention.

So, when this same type of rhetoric gets thrown back into their faces and all of a sudden they get the vapors because such statements 'don't help my side' you'll have to excuse me if I can't take such 'concern trolling' seriously.

It sucks being called something that you aren't, doesn't it? Guilt by 6-degrees-of-separation association is ridiculous, right?

Case in point: Sean "Douchebag" Hannity recently did an hour long 'documentary' (lying piece of shit as I would call it) 'detailing' his made-up version of the Ayers/Obama connection. As a key source for this 'documentary' he utilized a man named Andy Martin, who is an anti-semite of epic porportions.

A bit about Martin:

The Man Behind the Whispers About Obama - NYTimes.com:
"The most persistent falsehood about Senator Barack Obama’s background first hit in 2004 just two weeks after the Democratic convention speech that helped set him on the path to his presidential candidacy: “Obama is a Muslim who has concealed his religion.”"
.......

But an appearance in a documentary-style program on the Fox News Channel watched by three million people last week thrust the man, Andy Martin, and his past into the foreground. The program allowed Mr. Martin to assert falsely and without challenge that Mr. Obama had once trained to overthrow the government.

An examination of legal documents and election filings, along with interviews with his acquaintances, revealed Mr. Martin, 62, to be a man with a history of scintillating if not always factual claims. He has left a trail of animosity — some of it provoked by anti-Jewish comments — among political leaders, lawyers and judges in three states over more than 30 years.

He is a law school graduate, but his admission to the Illinois bar was blocked in the 1970s after a psychiatric finding of “moderately severe character defect manifested by well-documented ideation with a paranoid flavor and a grandiose character.”

Robert Gibbs, a surrogate for Obama, appeared on Hannity's show and took him to task for this false guilt by association. Gibbs uses Hannity's reasoning against him to state that since Hannity allowed such a viralent anti-semite on his show, then he, Hannity, too must be an anti-semite. One of the best examples ever on how to deal with douchebags like Hannity.

Watch it:

As I have said many times before the Republicans have defined the game. We can't change the game until with hold the court. The only way to hold the court is to beat them at their own game. Once we hold the ball and the court only then can we change the game.

Hey, I wish it could all be like this:

Chimp, White Tiger Become Best Friends (PHOTOS)

But it ain't at the moment. Not until the good guys crush the bad guys. Not just win, but crush.

You can't just 'tell' Republicans what they are doing it wrong. You have to 'show' them.

So, I expect all who emailed and commented yesterday on my blog post to spend the entire day, today, emailing and commenting on all of the conservative blogs, newspapers and TV networks bashing them for all of their hateful remarks and insinuations.

One of my heroes, Kos, states my position better than I ever could:

Daily Kos: State of the Nation:
"This isn't about winning. It's about destroying the conservative movement, and their dangerous incompetence has given us an historic opportunity to deliver a killing blow. Leave everything on the road."

Daily Kos: State of the Nation:

"So with conservatives bracing for the worse, they won't experience the kind of pain we did. Not unless we deliver a defeat even worse than their worst nightmares. And I'll be honest with you -- I want them to hurt as much as we did. I want their spirits crushed, their backs broken.

So the way we do that is we deliver a defeat worse than they ever imagined. We do that by winning states that have no business turning Blue -- like North Carolina, Georgia, Indiana, and so on -- states that were easy Bush victories in 2004. We do that by electing a 60-seat supermajority in the Senate. We do that by defeating their leadership, like Mitch McConnell in the Senate. We do that by defeating their heroes, like wingnut go-to hero John Shadegg. We do that by making sure a record number of Americans reject conservative ideology, leaving it utterly discredited."

MKKKain

I struggled with the order in which to present the topics today. I decided to go with the 'Good' first. Then I'll follow with the evil in this country who suckle at the teat of McCain/Palin.

Who is Obama? This is who Obama is:

_______

Let's take a look at the other side. The disgusting side of America. The racists, hateful, uniformed, mouth-breathers.

I'm not saying all Republicans are racists..... scratch that. I think I can say with full confidence that all Republicans are racists pieces of shit. Check the link for the CBS video of this douchebag passing off his racist toy to a child. The Youtube is of the same dirtbag in line to enter a MKKKain/Palin Klan meeting:

CBS: Man Brings "Obama" Monkey Doll to Palin Event:

"This video speaks for itself. From the cbsnews.com website:

'A man brought a stuffed monkey doll wearing an Obama sticker to a Palin campaign event in Johnstown, Ohio. Realizing he was caught on camera, he passed it off to a child he didn't know.'"

_______

David Gergen: McCain/palin rallies "whipping around anger that could really lead to some violence":

"David Gergen is considered very somber and portrays himself as one of the wise ones. Last night, on CNN, Gergen said the angry frenzied mobs at the McCain and Palin rallies could lead to violence. Violence. In 2008. McCain and Palin are basically inciting violence on the campaign trail:

COOPER: There's also the question of ruling after this and bringing the country together. It's going to be all the more harder to do that whoever wins with all this anger out there.

GERGEN: Yes. There is this -- I think one of the most striking things we've seen now in the last few days. We've seen it in the Palin rallies. We saw it at the McCain rally today. And we saw it to a considerable degree during the rescue package legislation.

There is this free floating sort of whipping around anger that could really lead to some violence. I think we're not far from that.

COOPER: Really?

GERGEN: I think it's so -- well, I really worry when we get people -- when you get the kind of rhetoric that you're getting at these rallies now. I think it's really imperative that the candidates try to calm people down. And that's why I've argued not only because of the question of the ugliness of it."

Better to Be... - Swampland - TIME:

"But seriously, folks, I'm beginning to worry about the level of craziness on the Republican side, the over-the-top, stampede-the-crowd statements by everyone from McCain on down, the vehemence of the crowds that McCain and Palin are drawing with people shouting 'Kill him' and 'He's a terrorist' and 'Off with his head.'

Watch the tape of the guy screaming, 'He's a terrorist!' McCain seems to shudder at that, he rolls his eyes... and I thought for a moment he'd admonish the man. But he didn't. And now he's selling the Ayres non-story full-time. Yes, yes, it's all he has. True enough: he no longer has his honor. But we are on the edge of some real serious craziness here and it would be nice if McCain did the right thing and told his more bloodthirsty supporters to go home and take a cold shower. But McCain hasn't done the right thing all year. His campaign is appalling, as the New York Times editorial board said today--and more, it is a national disgrace."
_______

McCain Faces Backlash Over Rabid Crowds:

"John McCain was booed by his own supporters during a rally on Friday after he described Barack Obama as a 'decent person and a person that you do not have to be scared of as president of the United States.'"
_______

So what would cause the writers above to pen such articles.......

It gets worse. More bigoted ignorance from a McCain/Palin rally:

________

Harmless, right? Wrong.

LA Observed: Obama threat, white powder sent to LAT *:

"I'm told the Los Angeles Times mailroom opened a hand-scrawled letter today that read 'death to Obama' and contained a white powder that triggered a call to the FBI and a city hazardous materials team. No one was injured and the powder proved to be harmless. My sources say the letter was addressed to staff writers Richard Serrano and Ralph Vartabedian and included a demand for a retraction to their story this week that detailed flying mishaps early in John McCain's Navy flying career. The nut mail was said to carry an upside-down stamp and language about saving babies in addition to the Barack Obama threat.

* Also: The Palms campaign office for the Obama campaign was evacuated Thursday night due to a suspicious envelope. The LAPD bomb squad and a a HazMat team responded. KTLA"

Wow. McCain/Palin are trailblazers:

The Washington Monthly:

"A HISTORIC TICKET.... Now that Sarah Palin has been found to have abused her powers, violated state ethics, and lied about it, I did a little digging and found an interesting historical footnote.

The McCain/Palin ticket is the first in American history in which both candidates were found to have violated ethics standards before a national election."

VISITING ACT | Patterson Hood - Trucker on the Side: Patterson Hood sneaks in a special solo set :
"'I'm pretty comfortable up there,' says Hood. 'My stage fright would be more with talking with people than the actual playing part. It's pretty good, particularly right now; its not like I'm not warmed up, because we've played a lot of shows recently. My chops are in okay form. My weak link playing solo used to be my weakness as a guitar player. I wasn't as solid as I could have been. But I've improved. I'm going to play a lot of solo stuff from the first album, this new one, plus plenty of songs from the Truckers albums. I'll take some requests and do a little bit of everything.'"

This explains a lot...

Singing To Females Makes Male Birds' Brains Happy:

"ScienceDaily (Oct. 6, 2008) — The melodious singing of birds has been long appreciated by humans, and has often been thought to reflect a particularly positive emotional state of the singer. Researchers at the RIKEN Brain Science Institute in Japan have now demonstrated that this can be true. When male birds sang to attract females, specific 'reward' areas of their brain were strongly activated. Such strong brain activation resulted in a similar change in brain reward function to that which is caused by addictive drugs."

Good. Need to see some U.S. musicians do the same. Eff 'The Man'!

British pop stars form group to demand more power:

"LONDON - Some of Britain's biggest music stars announced Saturday they are banding together to demand greater control over their music in the digital age.

Radiohead, Robbie Williams and Kaiser Chiefs are among more than 60 founding members of the Featured Artists' Coalition.

The group says it wants musicians rather than record labels to retain control over the rights to their music. It says new technology is rapidly changing the music industry, and artists are often left out when their songs are distributed over the Internet or mobile phone networks."
_______

What-the-fuck-ever.

GNR's 'Chinese Democracy' Gets Release Date:

"More than a decade after its conception, Guns N' Roses' 'Chinese Democracy' will finally see the light of day before year's end, sources close to the situation confirm to Billboard. As first reported here, the set will be a Best Buy exclusive and will be available Sunday, Nov. 23, rather than the usual Tuesday."

This spring, soft drink manufacturer Dr Pepper offered to send a free can of the beverage to "everyone in America" (excluding ex-GNR members Slash and Buckethead) if "Chinese Democracy" were to arrive anytime during the calendar year 2008.

"We're waiting to hear about 'Chinese Democracy' just like all the other GNR fans," Dr Pepper VP of marketing Tony Jacobs tells Billboard. "But if the rumors are true, we're putting the Dr Pepper on ice."

Know Them By Their Deeds

"Sorry" doesn't even begin to describe McPalin.

Editorial - Politics of Attack - NYTimes.com:
"It is a sorry fact of American political life that campaigns get ugly, often in their final weeks. But Senator John McCain and Gov. Sarah Palin have been running one of the most appalling campaigns we can remember.

They have gone far beyond the usual fare of quotes taken out of context and distortions of an opponent’s record — into the dark territory of race-baiting and xenophobia."
_______

Biden: Palin Must Condemn Supporters' Hateful Obama Attacks:

"'I watched the news and I heard a couple people hollering from the audience semi-vile things about 'terrorists,' things like that,' Biden said on NBC's Today show. 'The idea that a leading American politician who might be vice president of the United States would not just stop mid-sentence and turn and condemn that -- it's just a slippery slope, it's a place that we shouldn't be going.'"
_______

McPalin are inciting lynch mobs across America. Doin' it old school.

Angry voter threatens Registrar, says he needs to 'keep the n***** out of office':

"A Monroe, Louisiana man is facing a felony terrorizing charge after a racially charged, profane exchange with his Registrar of Voters and police officers who would later arrest him.

75-year-old Wade Williams, arrested Wednesday morning, was angry that he hadn't yet received his voter registration card. According to the Ouachita Parish Sheriff's Office, Williams threatened a state official over the phone that he would 'empty his shotgun,' stating an urgent need to vote to 'keep the nigger out of office.' On the way to be booked at the Ouachita Correctional Center, Williams reportedly 'continued his 'tirade' about niggers and also stated that he had a shotgun, but had hidden it at his residence."

_______

I'm spoiling for a fight myself these days, so I can understand this challenge on some level.

Alleged Des Moines burglar challenges victim to fight; winner takes all:

"Police said in a report that the thief will give the property back only if the Gray challenges him to a fight. The alleged thief told police whoever wins would get the stuff.

The burglar has a 10-year age advantage. But that still puts him in his mid 50s."
