Water, Water Everywhere.....

Help our friends in Nashville if you can:

So Nashville Is Flooded… How Can I Help? [Flood 2010] | Nashvillest

_______

Of the many reasons why this isn't 'Obama's Katrina', this link clearly shows he was on top of it from the get go.

Katrina crept on shore and BushCo knew about it days before it hit and did nothing about it.

This rig blew at 10 p.m. and Obama's folks were on it at day break the next day.

So, as much as the baggers and NeoCons who dominate what passes for 'news media' these days wants it to be Obama's Katrina, it simply isn't and if you are a liberal you need to smack anyone in the nose who states otherwise.

Memo to media: Timeline contradicts "Obama's Katrina" claim | Media Matters for America

________

Halliburton. The same folks shocking our soldiers with bullshit wiring:

Drilling Process Attracts Scrutiny in Rig Explosion - WSJ.com:
"The scrutiny on cementing will focus attention on Halliburton Co., the oilfield-services firm that was handling the cementing process on the rig, which burned and sank last week. The disaster, which killed 11, has left a gusher of oil streaming into the Gulf from a mile under the surface.
_______

This makes me sick to my stomach. An entire way of existence just blotted out.

You ain't in Mayberry anymore, Betty Lou.

'Andy Griffith Show' Actress Betty Lou Lynn Robbed In 'Mayberry':
"MOUNT AIRY, N.C. — The actress who played Thelma Lou on 'The Andy Griffith Show' was robbed in the town that inspired the show's idyllic Mayberry setting, after moving to the area to avoid big city crime.

Betty Lou Lynn had her wallet stolen at a shopping center in Mount Airy, the birthplace of Andy Griffith."
_______

Above this point in the blog post is a bunch of bullshit.

The article below does well in redeeming some of the above.

Anatomy of not just a 'lie' but a 'goddamn lie'... that worked.... again.

Skip the article and scroll down to the bottom and watch Maddow's piece. Must see TV

Maddow: Raw footage reveals O’Keefe lied about ACORN tapes | Raw Story:
"When conservative activists James O'Keefe and Hannah Giles released tapes last fall purporting to show ACORN employees advising them on how to set up a child prostitution ring, it resulted in widespread praise for their intrepid journalism and a Congressional defunding of the anti-poverty group. But it is now becoming clear to all but their most fervent supporters that the O'Keefe 'expose' was deliberately misleading.

'If you were a member of Congress and you voted to defund ACORN because of the outrage portrayed in these tapes,' MSNBC's Rachel Maddow proclaimed on Tuesday, 'you were had.'"

This being on the ballot is going to make for some interesting politicking in Cali over the next few months. It gets my ass to the polls, for sure.

Competitive CA Ballot Complicated By Pot Initiative | TPMDC:
"Recent polls show 56 percent of voters support taxing and regulating marijuana. State Sen. Tom Ammiano (D) has a bill proposed to tax and regulate marijuana that is similar to the ballot initiative. The difference is that voters are being asked to allow local counties to opt into legalization.

'This isn't as much a culture war as it also is the long overdue rational conversation on public policy for how we're going to treat marijuana,' said Ammiano spokesman Quintin Mecke. 'We can try and pretend that people aren't using marijuana and that the war on drugs is working or we can acknowledge reality. This question is no longer a joke about 'What are you smoking' or 'How high are you,' and the economics of the situation in California and nationally have provided us a window to have this conversation.'"
_______

The Push to Legalize Marijuana: It's Real - Politics - The Atlantic:
"You may have heard there's a push to legalize marijuana in California. You may not have heard that it's for real.

Voting ballots in California this November will contain an initiative to legalize, tax, and regulate the sale of marijuana to adults 21 and older, and while this may sound like something that has no chance, whatsoever, of ever becoming law, the thing is: it actually might."

Good Energy for Old Friends

Marsha sat on my thesis committee in grad school. We use to call her movement classes 'therapy' and there were times when I just hated going. Never after the class was over. You were always glad that you went when it was done.

Marsha is one of those rare humans who can put anyone at peace with just a look.

And one of the strongest people I've ever met. As the article mentions, I've seen her lift men well over 200 pounds.

Marsha taught me so much. Many of those things are just now starting to blossom.

This is hard to believe, but if there is anyone anywhere on this earth who can kick this challenge in the ass, it is Marsha.

The most difficult moves yet : News-Record.com : Greensboro, North Carolina:

"'You tell people that Marsha Paludan had a stroke, and you have to tell them twice,' says her daughter, Kari Paludan-Sorey, an opera singer in the Washington area. 'No one believes it. People think my mother is indestructible.'

In a place called WhiteStone, the teacher has become the student. This longtime master of movement strains to re-learn the simplest of motions that she once took for granted."

It is gonna take a long time purging all of these douchebags.

Goddamn Bush.

Hero vs Zero

Hero is a term that's thrown around too, too much.

In this case, this man is the very definition of 'hero'.

And he's from the Bay Area too.....

Bay Area pilot hailed as hero in N.Y. plane crash

________

5 white-knuckled minutes aboard Flight 1549

_______

Some vid of the landing.

The landing and rescue start around the 2 minute mark on this one:

_______

This is a great point made by a DK diarist.

Though, it wasn't a 'miracle'. This was training and focus and a commitment to excellence that has been so sorely lacking in this country.

Daily Kos: This Miracle Brought to You by America's Unions:

"They're calling it a miracle--the successful landing of a US Airways jet in the Hudson and subsequent rescue of all 155 passengers. They're detailing the heroism of all involved, starting with the pilot and including cabin crew, ferry crews, and first responders. What they're not telling you is that just about every single one of these heros is a union member."
________

Funny because if he had time... It'd be true.

Bush's Final Approval Rating: 22 Percent, CBS News/N.Y. Times Poll Finds President Will Leave Office With Lowest Final Approval Rating Ever - CBS News:

"(CBS) President Bush will leave office as one of the most unpopular departing presidents in history, according to a new CBS News/New York Times poll showing Mr. Bush's final approval rating at 22 percent."
_______

I say this is about right.

The Bush Verdict Is In:
"He took the nation to a war of choice under false pretenses -- and left troops in harm's way on two fields of battle. He embraced torture as an interrogation tactic and turned the world's champion of human dignity into an outlaw nation and international pariah. He watched with detachment as a major American city went under water. He was ostensibly at the helm as the worst financial crisis since the Great Depression took hold. He went from being the most popular to the most disappointing president, having squandered a unique opportunity to unite the country and even the world behind a shared agenda after Sept. 11. He set a new precedent for avoiding the general public in favor of screened audiences and seemed to occupy an alternate reality. He took his own political party from seeming permanent majority status to where it is today. And he deliberately politicized the federal government, circumvented the traditional policymaking process, ignored expert advice and suppressed dissent, leaving behind a broken government."
_______

Daily Kos: Bush Drops Fake Cowboy Shtick:

"George Bush bought his 'ranch' down in Crawford in 1999 shortly before he started running for president. And now that he's done with politics, he is moving out of there as soon as he possibly can. The Bushes have bought a new home in a tony neighborhood (and until recently a whites-only community) in Dallas. So, what happened to retiring down to the ranch?

Well, it's what most of us suspected - all total bullshit. He was never a cowboy. That ranch had nothing on it. No cows, no farming, just a lot of bullshit brush that Bush pretended to clear (for what fucking purpose?). The ranch was always a political gimmick. It was purchased so that Bush could play the role of the Texas cowboy when in fact he has always been the Andover cheerleader."
_______

But while he'll be gone in 24 hours, he will not be forgotten.

They must be held accountable. Must. MUST.

Past is prologue

Op-Ed Columnist - Forgive and Forget? - NYTimes.com:

"Why, then, shouldn’t we have an official inquiry into abuses during the Bush years?

One answer you hear is that pursuing the truth would be divisive, that it would exacerbate partisanship. But if partisanship is so terrible, shouldn’t there be some penalty for the Bush administration’s politicization of every aspect of government?

Alternatively, we’re told that we don’t have to dwell on past abuses, because we won’t repeat them. But no important figure in the Bush administration, or among that administration’s political allies, has expressed remorse for breaking the law. What makes anyone think that they or their political heirs won’t do it all over again, given the chance?

In fact, we’ve already seen this movie. During the Reagan years, the Iran-contra conspirators violated the Constitution in the name of national security. But the first President Bush pardoned the major malefactors, and when the White House finally changed hands the political and media establishment gave Bill Clinton the same advice it’s giving Mr. Obama: let sleeping scandals lie. Sure enough, the second Bush administration picked up right where the Iran-contra conspirators left off — which isn’t too surprising when you bear in mind that Mr. Bush actually hired some of those conspirators."
_______

Agreed.

Robert Creamer: The One Big Thing George W. Bush Did Right:

"History will record that George W. Bush made one critically important contribution to our country -- and to the entire world. He and his administration provided unquestionable proof of the bankruptcy of radical-conservative ideology, and set the stage for a qualitatively different progressive era in American politics."
